Divorce stats that surprised me

The religion that is least likely to divorce is… Hindu (5%)! Most likely? Evangelical Protestant (14%). From all of the marriage stats out there, I curated those to what I found most surprising. I also added my own commentary in italics. Vicki Larson’s article on The Live Apart Together Revolution is Coming featured a link to a Forbes article on divorce stats in 2024 that contains a bonanza of interesting stats that provided the inspiration and data for this article.

A luxury gym is the best value for babysitting

The going rate for a babysitter in our area is $20/hour I have access to a gym at work. There are nice walking trails in our area. I could go outside and ride a bike. I could lift free weights at home. And I don’t use any of those free options. So why would I sign up for a gym? Many of our married friends with young children have never hired a babysitter. Ever. So they have gone years without a date out without kids. I couldn’t think of a better recipe for burnout and resentment.

Squid boat syndrome

What’s your ‘squid boat’ these days? Building on my last post about how Americans like tangible things, we also like ‘shiny things’ which I call “the squid boat”. When my nephew in law was younger, he was obsessed with wanting a squid boat for his birthday (a toy, although I’m sure he would be beside himself for a real live sized squid boat). His godmother got it for him, I’m sure he had a blast for a couple of days. But afterwards we never heard about the squid boat that he so craved.

How I got a free meal from Google Maps

I took my family out for a special dinner... ...but alas, it was disgusting. As I mentioned in my previous post about how I reached 50,000 views on Google Maps, 98% of the time I post positive reviews, unless something is truly terrible. At a much-hyped DC area restaurant, I tried every polite attempt to ask for water, but was stuck in a desert of thirst. Unfortunately the restaurant we went to, Founding Farmers, which is a cult favorite in the DC area, was a huge let down.
