Spatial transformation and water infrastructure in coastal Jiangsu: the role of land reclamation companies during the early twentieth century
ABSTRACT This article examines the role of land reclamation companies in early twentieth-century coastal Jiangsu, China, as key drivers of spatial transformation. Amid retreating state capacity during the late Qing and Republican eras, Chinese entrepreneurs, most notably Zhang Jian, established shareholding companies that reclaimed coastal mudflats and declining salt fields, and transformed them into cotton plantations.
Integration of hunger and hormonal state gates infant-directed aggression
SFEBES2025 Workshops Basic Physiology Workshop (Cutting Edge Session): New Insights into Hormonal Regulation of Behaviour (3 abstracts) Integration of hunger and hormonal state gates infant-directed aggression Social behaviour is profoundly shaped by bodily states. It is well-documented that individual states such as the estrous cycle or hunger affect behaviours such as mating or aggression. Integration of hunger and hormonal state gates infant-directed aggression
Abstract Social behaviour is profoundly shaped by internal physiological states. While significant progress has been made in understanding how individual states such as hunger, stress, or arousal modulate behaviour, animals experience multiple states at any given time. The neural mechanisms that integrate such orthogonal states - and how this integration affects behaviour - remain poorly understood.

Aufl., Frankfurt am Main 1972 [1969].

Newly opened Soviet archives help to clarify Soviet policy toward Xinjiang during this period.

Those conversations, which took place on the occasion of Ceaușescu’s visit to Cairo in April 1972, gave impetus to Romania’s mediation efforts in the Arab-Israeli conflict. Obtaining a mandate from the Egyptian side was no easy task for the Romanian delegation.
