Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, I have! While typewriters are mostly obsolete in today’s digital world, I’ve had the opportunity to use one — and it was a humbling experience. It really makes you appreciate the convenience and flexibility of modern tools. Using a typewriter taught me the importance of precision, since there’s no backspace or delete key — a valuable lesson in careful planning and execution, which I carry into my work as an entrepreneur.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

My favorite fictional journalist is Clark Kent (Superman). Beyond being a symbol of truth and justice, his role as a journalist at the Daily Planet reflects the power of storytelling and the responsibility that comes with sharing information. I admire how he uses journalism not just as a profession, but as a means to amplify voices, uncover the truth, and create meaningful impact — values I believe in as an entrepreneur committed to transparency and community empowerment.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

As a tech entrepreneur and CEO of Activezoon.com, I rely on a combination of business, development, and productivity tools to manage day-to-day operations efficiently. For project management and collaboration, I use tools like Trello, Slack, and Notion to coordinate with my team and ensure that development milestones and marketing goals are aligned. On the development side, my team and I work with Visual Studio Code, GitHub, and Laravel for building and maintaining our platform. We also integrate Firebase and AWS for backend support and scalability. For customer engagement and analytics, we use tools like Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite, and Hotjar to understand user behavior and optimize the platform. Additionally, for branding, marketing, and design tasks, we work with Canva, Figma, and Adobe Creative Cloud, especially for UI/UX design and content creation. Finally, for finance and documentation, Google Workspace, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Office Suite play a key role in streamlining administrative tasks. Overall, I believe in using smart, integrated tools that support innovation, transparency, and growth across all areas of the business.

Who do you wish followed you?

I would love to have fellow innovators, thought leaders, and changemakers follow me—people who are passionate about technology, entrepreneurship, and positive social impact. Connecting with such individuals inspires meaningful conversations and collaborations that can drive growth and innovation. I also appreciate followers who are curious learners and young professionals looking to make a difference in their communities.

Why did you become a journalist?

I was inspired by the evolution and power of online journalism. The ability to inform, educate, and influence communities through digital platforms deeply appealed to me. I saw journalism not just as a profession, but as a tool for driving change, empowering people with information, and giving a voice to stories that matter—especially within African communities. The accessibility and reach of online media motivated me to be part of a movement that blends technology with storytelling to make a meaningful impact.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

My advice to aspiring journalists is to stay curious and committed to telling authentic stories. In today’s digital age, it’s essential to embrace new technologies and platforms while maintaining strong ethical standards. Always verify your information, be open to learning, and cultivate empathy—understanding different perspectives is key to impactful journalism. Lastly, be adaptable and persistent, because the media landscape is constantly evolving, and resilience will help you thrive.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

The best pitch I ever received was from a young entrepreneur who proposed a logistics solution using electric motorbikes to reduce carbon emissions in urban areas. What made it stand out wasn't just the idea — which was timely and aligned with global sustainability goals — but the clarity of the business model, the founder's passion, and the way they addressed a real-world problem with local relevance. It was well-researched, impactful, and presented with confidence. That pitch reminded me of the kind of innovation Africa needs: practical, scalable, and socially responsible.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

One of the worst pitches I ever received was from someone who had a genuinely good idea but completely failed to communicate its value. There was no clear problem statement, no defined target market, and no structure to the pitch — it was essentially a string of buzzwords without substance. What made it particularly difficult was that the person pitching was very passionate but hadn’t done any research or preparation. They couldn’t answer basic questions about competitors, monetization, or why their solution mattered. It reminded me how important it is to balance passion with clarity, data, and structure. It taught me that even a strong idea can fall flat if it’s not communicated well. As a founder, I’m always open to hearing bold ideas — but the delivery matters just as much as the concept.

What's your favorite drink?

My favorite drink is multifruit juice. I enjoy the refreshing blend of natural flavors, and it gives me a boost of energy throughout the day. It’s a simple pleasure that helps me stay refreshed and focused, especially during long hours of work and innovation.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

When I’m not at a computer, I’m most likely engaging with people either networking, attending business meetings, or exploring marketplaces to better understand customer behavior and local commerce trends. I also enjoy spending time in nature or reading to recharge and gain fresh perspectives. These offline moments often inspire my digital strategies and help me stay grounded in the real needs of the communities we serve.
