Success might not come how you want it
You can feel the presence of Capitol Hill’s Dean of Students, especially when he thunders through the hallway, moving scholars from one place to another like a linebacker hungry for a sack. Mpumi Masimini has an exciting story to tell. Prior to working at Chavez, he attended Howard University, and was the Dean of Students at Phelps Senior High School. He has been working with kids for 11 years, and has worked with Chavez scholars for two.
Seniors take on their last challenge
A quiet room full of hard-working scholars. Some are stressing, some are ready. They work diligently and studiously, trying to get the most difficult assignment of the senior year done in preparation for the big reveal: Senior Thesis Presentations. In order to graduate from Chavez, students must pass their senior Thesis course. Thesis class is a research class that is obligatory: a fifteen page paper followed by a power point presentation on your own topic.

He is tall with long black hair. He is funny, and nice, a motivated student. His name is Jairo Viera. Jairo Viera is a tenth grader here at Chavez. Jairo is from El Salvador, and admits it is a rough place. He has been at Chavez for a couple of months now, and he is in the process of transitioning to greatness.
