Status and understanding of groundwater quality in the Mojave Basin Domestic-Supply Aquifer study unit, 2018-California GAMA Priority Basin Project
First posted May 14, 2024 For additional information, contact: Director, California Water Science Center U.S. Geological Survey 6000 J Street, Placer Hall Sacramento, California 95819 Groundwater quality in the western part of the Mojave Desert in San Bernardino County, California, was investigated in 2018 as part of the California State Water Resources Control Board Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment Program Priority Basin Project.
Status of water quality in groundwater resources used for drinking-water supply in the southeastern San Joaquin Valley, 2013-15-California GAMA Priority Basin Project
First posted April 25, 2024 For additional information, contact: Director, California Water Science Center U.S. Geological Survey 6000 J Street, Placer Hall Sacramento, California 95819 The California Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment Program Priority Basin Project (GAMA-PBP) investigated water quality of groundwater resources used for drinking-water supplies in the Madera-Chowchilla, Kings, Kaweah, Tule, and Tulare Lake groundwater subbasins of the southeastern San Joaquin Valley...
Groundwater Quality in the Yuba River and Bear River Watersheds, Sierra Nevada, California
Groundwater provides more than 40 percent of California’s drinking water. To protect this vital resource, the State of California created the Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program. The GAMA Program’s Priority Basin Project assesses the quality of groundwater resources used for drinking water supply and increases public access to groundwater-quality information.
Groundwater Quality in the Bear Valley and Lake Arrowhead Watershed, California
Groundwater provides more than 40 percent of California’s drinking water. To protect this vital resource, the State of California created the Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program. The Priority Basin Project of the GAMA Program provides a comprehensive assessment of the State’s groundwater quality and increases public access to groundwater-quality information.
Groundwater quality in the Western San Joaquin Valley study unit, 2010: California GAMA Priority Basin Project
Water quality in groundwater resources used for public drinking-water supply in the Western San Joaquin Valley (WSJV) was investigated by the USGS in cooperation with the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) as part of its Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program Priority Basin Project. The WSJV includes two study areas: the Delta–Mendota and Westside subbasins of the San Joaquin Valley groundwater basin.
Groundwater-quality data in the Tulare Shallow Aquifer Study Unit, 2014-2015: Results from the California GAMA Priority Basin Project
The U.S. Geological Survey collected groundwater samples from 95 domestic wells in Tulare and Kings Counties, California in 2014-2015. The wells were sampled for the Tulare Shallow Aquifer Study Unit of the California State Water Resources Control Board Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment (GAMA) Program Priority Basin Project’s assessment of the quality of groundwater resources used for domestic drinking water supply.
Groundwater-Quality Data for the Madera/Chowchilla- Kings Shallow Aquifer Study Unit, 2013-14: Results from the California GAMA Program
Groundwater quality in the 2,390-square-mile Madera/Chowchilla–Kings Shallow Aquifer study unit was investigated by the U.S. Geological Survey from August 2013 to April 2014 as part of the California State Water Resources Control Board Groundwater Ambient Monitoring and Assessment Program’s Priority Basin Project.
Groundwater Quality in the Shallow Aquifers of the Tulare, Kaweah, and Tule Groundwater Basins and Adjacent Highlands areas, Southern San Joaquin Valley, California
Metrics for Assessing the Quality of Groundwater Used for Public Supply, CA, USA: Equivalent-Population and Area
Data from 11 000 public supply wells in 87 study areas were used to assess the quality of nearly all of the groundwater used for public supply in California. Two metrics were developed for quantifying groundwater quality: area with high concentrations (km2 or proportion) and equivalent-population relying upon groundwater with high concentrations (number of people or proportion). Concentrations are considered high if they are above a human-health benchmark.
Groundwater Quality in the Sierra Nevada, California
The Sierra Nevada Regional (SNR) study unit covers approximately 25,000 square miles and includes the Sierra Nevada mountain and foothill regions. The study unit was divided into four study areas corresponding to the four major rock types present in the region: granitic rocks, metamorphic rocks, sedimentary deposits, and volcanic rocks (Shelton and others, 2010). In contrast to most other study units evaluated by the GAMA PBP, the SNR study unit consists primarily of fractured-bedrock aquifers.
