He’s a Teenage Frankenstein: ‘DEADLY FRIEND’ (1986) Revisited – Retro Review
Editorials, Movie Reviews, News, Retro Reviews, Reviews When I was younger, I always loved it when my cousin Marty came down and stayed with us for a few days during the summer. We would always go rent horror movies when he came down and would stay up all night watching them. One of the movies that we rented one night when he came down was Deadly Friend, and we watched it right after we watched Savage Weekend and Creepers (AKA Phenomena) and gorged ourselves on Crunch N’ Munch.
Don’t Feed the Troglodytes: ‘THE PIT’ (1981) Revisited – Retro Review
I remember going to the video store with my mom one Saturday afternoon around Easter when I was in 7th grade and seeing The Pit on the shelf among several other new releases and knew that I had to see it. I thought that the cover looked awesome and after reading the synopsis on the back of the VHS box I was sold and told my mom that we had to rent it. She agreed and we got it and watched it with my dad when he got home from work later that evening.
Don’t Go In The Water: ‘SHARK NIGHT’ (2011) Revisited – Retro Review
A group of college kids head for the lake for the weekend only to discover that it is full of man-eating sharks, and that isn’t even the worst thing that they have to worry about. I always enjoy a good killer shark movie (and Lord knows that there are a ton of them out there), so when I first heard about Shark Night back in the day, I thought it sounded like it might be fun. My wife and I went to see it the day it came out and I went into it hoping for the best.
The Broken Bat: ‘BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL PART 1: KNIGHTFALL’ (2026) – Movie Review
I have always been a Batman fan and have enjoyed most of the animated films based on several different comic book story arcs that have been released recently. I always dug the Knightfall storyline from the 90s and have hoped for years that it would be adapted into an animated feature, so I was super excited when I heard that DC was finally doing a film based on the arc. I watched Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall the other night and went into it hoping for the best.
Circle Circle Dot Dot: ‘COOTIES’ (2014) Revisited – Retro Review
I was extremely bored one night several months ago and was looking for something to watch on Tubi and ran across Cooties. I had never seen it or heard much about it so I decided to give it a shot and thought that it might be a fun little brainless movie. I mean come on, it’s about a bunch of zombie kids running around eating people, so it had potential to be cool, right? So, after everything was said and done what did I think?
You Got the Touch: ‘TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE’ (1986) Revisited – Retro Review
When I was twelve, I was a huge Transformers mark, so I was beyond excited when I heard that they were making a movie. The day before school started my mom took me to a matinee to see it and I was just full of nervous energy and completely stoked about watching it that afternoon. I loved every single minute of it (even though I am sure my poor mom was bored to tears the entire time) and couldn’t wait to see it again as soon as possible.
Don’t Tell Dad the Babysitter’s Dead:’WOODCHIPPER MASSACRE’ (1988) Revisited – Retro Review
Editorials, Movie Reviews, News, Retro Reviews, Reviews I love low budget SOV films and will take them over any mainstream big budget movie that Hollywood vomits out on a regular basis. I particularly love the horror ones that came out in the 80s and 90s, and there is just something about them that make me feel all warm, fuzzy, and cozy inside when I watch them. I had heard about Woodchipper Massacre but for some reason I had never sat down and watched it.
I Have the Power! ‘MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE’ (2026) – Movie Review
When I was in 5th grade, I was a huge He-Man fan. I would race home every day after school to watch the cartoon, I had a ton of the action figures, play sets, and vehicles from the toy line, and I loved the old STAR comic books that were put out by Marvel Comics at the time. I loved everything about He-Man and wanted to be just like him when I grew up. When I heard that they were making another live-action movie I was more than a little skeptical.
Vibe slop is the symptom. Context debt is the disease.
Some of the engineers who made vibe coding possible have decided it’s a problem. Last month, The Wall Street Journal’s Christopher Mims interviewed Armin Ronacher and Mario Zechner, the engineers behind the Pi engine that powers OpenClaw. These engineers have been instrumental in popularizing these agentic tools, and their assessment was blunt: The tools are flooding the world with bad, sometimes dangerous code. “Eventually it will catch up to us,” Zechner told Mims. They’re referring to vibe slop.
It’s Bull Something: ‘BULL SHARK’ (2022) Revisited – Retro Review
I have always loved sharks, and as such have been a sucker for shark movies for as long as I can remember. I have seen a ton of killer shark movies in my day, and while some of them are awesome there are also a lot of them that are mighty bad. My wife and I were bored the other night and were trying to find something to watch on TUBI and ran across Bull Shark. I thought that it might be fun, so we gave it a go. Did we make the right decision?
School Is In Session! Five Horror Movies That Should Be Shown In School
Believe it or not, I am currently an elementary school counselor (I know, it is a scary thought, huh?). Before that I was a middle/high school counselor for five years, and I also taught middle and high school language arts after I graduated from college.
Rest in Peace, Ricky: A Tribute to Jonathan Tiersten (August 11, 1965 – May 3, 2026)
Ever since I first saw it way back in 1987, Sleepaway Camp has been my favorite movie of all time, and I have seen it more times that I can count. Not only is it a fun little slasher flick in general with some awesome and unique death scenes, but it also features some of the best characters that you just can’t help but love. One of those characters is Ricky, played by the wonderful and always cool Jonathan Tiersten (The House that Wept Blood, Terror Tales), who sadly passed away recently.
Be Afraid of the Big Bad Wolves: ‘THE HOWLING’ (1981) Revisited – Retro Review
As most of you know, I love werewolf movies almost as much as I do 80s slasher flicks. When I was a kid, my mom and dad were watching The Howling on satellite one night, and it creeped me out and helped form my love of werewolves at the same time. When the movie was over my dad told me to go get some firewood from behind the garage for the wood stove, and I was absolutely terrified there was going to be a werewolf out there waiting to tear me to pieces (sometimes I hate having an imagination).
Bark at the Moon: ‘LONE WOLF’ (1988) Revisited – Retro Review
I have always been into werewolves and as such I am always on the lookout for great werewolf movies. While I love the better-known ones such as The Howling, An American Werewolf in London, and Ginger Snaps I have also run across a few that most people don’t know about that I enjoyed a great deal as well. I remember catching Lone Wolf on cable one night when I was in college back in the day and I really dug it a lot.

I’m Sleeping With The Lights On Tonight: Six Horror Movies That Scared Me Senseless
I’ve been a fan of horror since I was a wee lad and remember watching The Omen-which is the first horror movie I ever saw if memory serves me correctly-when I was five. I’ve always loved horror, but at the same time I was kind of a wussy little kid and after I watched some scary movies they succeeded in terrifying the living daylights out of me afterward. It takes a lot to scare me as an adult when it comes to movies, but there are a couple that still freak me out from time-to-time.
Come Get Some: Ranking all the ‘EVIL DEAD’ Movies from Worst to Best
I have always been a huge fan of the Evil Dead movies ever since I was a kid. I remember seeing the first one in middle school and it legit scared the crap out of me. I am looking forward to the newest installment-Evil Dead Burn-that hits theaters in July and am hoping that it rules. While I like most of the films in the series, there are some I enjoy more than others, so I decided to do a ranking of the movies from worst to best.
Stay out of the Sewers: ‘ALLIGATOR’ (1980) Revisited – Retro Review
I remember watching TV one night when I was a kid and they showed the trailer for Alligator since it was going to be premiering on network television a few days later. Since I was obsessed with JAWS – and any movie that featured killer aquatic animals – I nearly peed myself with excitement when I heard about this film. I watched it for the first time that weekend with my mom and sister and at the time thought it was the greatest movie ever.
Time To Put These Toys Away: ‘PUPPET MASTER VS. DEMONIC TOYS’ (2004) Revisited – Retro Review
Remember when everyone was super excited about all the possible horror movie crossovers after Freddy vs Jason came out? I remember hearing that there was going to be a Pinhead vs Michael Myers movie, one featuring Ash taking on both Jason and Freddy (which actually became a reality in the comic book realm), and even a film that was going to have Chucky battling it out with Michael Myers.
Is Human Trafficking the Next Big Liability Exposure for Insurers?
Hotels, Sex Trafficking, and the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) In the U.S., prohibitions against human trafficking are rooted in the 13th amendment to the Constitution, which was ratified in 1865 and barred slavery and involuntary servitude.11 Driven by compelling examples of human trafficking during the late 20th century, in 2000 Congress passed comprehensive legislation to fight human trafficking called the Trafficking Victim Protection Act of 2000 (TVPA), and in 2023 passed the...
The Killers are Coming: ‘PROM NIGHT’ (1980) Revisited – Retro Review
When I was a kid, my dad was on swing shift at the water plant, so that meant he worked weird hours. He always worked until Midnight on Monday and Tuesday, so that meant it was just me, my sister, and my mom at home on those nights. The three of us would eat dinner in the TV room and would watch movies while we ate, and most of the time they were horror movies.

Don’t Take Movie Tickets from Strangers: ‘DEMONS’ (1985) Revisited – Retro Review
I remember when I was in seventh grade there was a kid a few years younger than me who lived down the street who watched Demons on VHS one night. I scared him so badly that he wouldn’t eat, sleep, or even go to the bathroom by himself for days, and his parents had to take him to see a doctor as a result. After I heard about this, I HAD to see this movie.

The Hunt is on: Predator vs. Spider-Man #1-Comic Book Review
The Predators have faced off against several different types of opponents, including Aliens, Superman, and Batman, but they have never set their sights on Spider-Man (my all-time favorite superhero that I love dearly) until now. I am referring, of course, to Predator vs. Spider-Man. When I first heard about this limited comic book series a few months ago I wasn’t sure what to think.
VOXPOP | Matt Burns on FIs commercialising data
Banks have access to an unparalleled amount of data, and are beginning to service clients beyond traditional financing. Anonymised and aggregated spending data can help businesses make more informed decisions. Consider a corporate real estate company that is looking to open a new shopping centre; banks could support the client with data on the most popular geographical locations based on payment propensity.
He’s Just Crazy About This Store: ‘INTRUDER’ (1989) Revisited – Retro Review
One night back when I was in high school, I was hanging out with some friends, and we had to stop at a gas station to get some gas before we went out and did whatever for the evening. This gas station also rented movies, and as I was looking at them, I ran across a copy of Intruder. I thought that it sounded awesome and made a mental note to rent it sometime. Unfortunately, when I went back to get it, I discovered that it was rented out.
This Mommy is Not so Dearest: ‘MOM’ (1991) Revisited – Retro Review
I remember looking through the TV Guide one night when I was in high school and seeing a listing for the movie Mom and thought that it sounded awesome. Unfortunately, we didn’t have cable at the time, so I was unable to see it. Thankfully though, about a year later after we got cable it was on HBO at like three in the morning and my friend Scott and I were able to check it out.
'One if his most special qualities' watch Arne Slot single out Liverpool ace for priase ahead of Fulham clash Original
Arne Slot was his usual calm and insightful self ahead of Sunday’s 2 pm kick-off between Fulham and Liverpool. The Away side will be looking to push on and add more points to their impressive Premier League lead at Craven Cottage. Fulham’s form isn’t great, with just two wins and 3 defeats in their last 5 games. Whilst the visitors this weekend have 4 wins and just that one draw against Aston Villa back on the 19th of last month.

Burning Down the House: ‘DON’T GO IN THE HOUSE’ (1979) Revisited – Retro Review - PopHorror
One Friday night when I was in eighth grade my dad went to the local video store to rent movies for the night. Normally this wasn’t a good thing because when he went by himself, he would come back with a bunch of Clint Eastwood movies or some random western or war films that none of the rest of the family enjoyed. This night was different though, and in addition to getting The Outlaw Josey Wales (for like the millionth time) he also grabbed a little flick called Don’t Go in the House.
Jason’s Back! (Well, Sort of): ‘FRIDAY THE 13TH: A NEW BEGINNING’ (1985) Revisited – Retro Review - PopHorror
I remember watching music videos on MTV with my sister when I was in 5th grade (yes kiddies, they actually used to show videos on MTV at one time, believe it or not) and was utterly shocked when they showed the trailer for Friday the 13th: A New Beginning at one point. I mean come on; Jason finally got killed in the last movie! It was called The Final Chapter, for Pete’s sakes, so there was no way they were going to bring him back, was there?
Rock On: ‘HARD ROCK NIGHTMARE’ (1988) Revisited – Retro Review
When I was in high school I really wanted to be a heavy metal bass player (despite the fact that I had no musical talent whatsoever), so horror movies that involved heavy metal bands-such as Black Roses, Trick or Treat, and even the incredibly atrocious Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare really spoke to me. I stumbled across Hard Rock Nightmare one night and at the time I thought that it totally and completely ruled.

Pottsville, We have a Problem: ‘THE BEING’ (1983) Revisited – Retro Review
I remember seeing the cover of The Being at the local video store when I was a kid, and it freaked me out. I thought that it looked absolutely terrifying, so I was beyond eager to see it. Unfortunately, it seemed like it was always rented out, so I had to wait for what seemed like forever to finally get my hands on a copy of it.
I am the Night: ‘BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM’ (1993) Revisited – Retro Review
While Spider-Man is my favorite superhero, I am also quite fond of Batman as well. I love Batman: The Animated Series so I was extremely excited when I heard that there was going to be a movie that took place in the same universe coming out back in 1993 and couldn’t wait to see it. One night back in the day I was hanging out with one of my friends and his girlfriend and we decided to go see a movie.
PCIe 7.0 technology. Too soon or not fast enough?
Editor's Choice printer friendly version PCIe 7.0 technology. Too soon or not fast enough? Many technologists seem to agree on one thing: innovation has never been faster. Why? AI. The race is on to offer differentiated hardware solutions for optimised AI performance at the edge and in the data centre. Data scientists, AI system architects, IC designers, optical engineers, interconnect providers like Samtec, and other solutions providers, are rethinking system topologies.
They Shouldn’t Have Let Him In: ‘CRAWLSPACE’ (1972) Revisited – Retro Review
My wife and I have started watching old made for TV movies from the 70s and 80s on Tubi and YouTube recently. The other night we found one called Crawlspace from 1972 that neither one of us had ever seen or even heard of. We thought that it sounded like it could be interesting, so we gave it a shot and hoped for the best. So, did it turn out to be a huge disappointment or a hidden gem that somehow eluded us for years?
Santa’s Watching, Santa’s Waiting: ‘SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT’ (1984) Revisited – Retro Review
It’s officially the holiday season again, and while normal folks celebrate and get into the Christmas spirit by watching traditional films like It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, and other Yuletide classics, the Martin household always gets ready by watching the 1984 slasher flick classic Silent Night, Deadly Night (my wife and I watch it and the original Black Christmas every Christmas Eve before we go to bed and await Santa’s arrival).
Bruichladdich: ripping up the whisky rule book
Matt Burns discusses his team’s latest campaign work with Bruichladdich who continue to shake-up category conventions in whisky Countless brands claim to be boundary pushing, but few are ambitious enough to consistently defy convention, especially in whisky, where a serious attitude pervades. True, we’re seeing impressive innovations in packaging design, largely driven by beverage sector-wide sustainability goals of net zero emissions by 2030 and 2050.
Message In a Bottle: How Spirits Brands Can Maintain Luxury In an Age of Sustainability
You wouldn’t put a crisp packet on a shelf at home. But a beautiful spirits bottle is something consumers want to enjoy and cherish, display on their bar cart or mantelpiece, or perhaps gift. Either way, whether it’s a $30, $300, or $3,000 liquid, a premium whisky or a craft gin, a spirit is always a considered purchase—a luxury rather than a necessity—and the structural design must reflect that by offering not just a vessel but an experience.
I Can’t Believe They Died: 10 Horror Film Characters Who Should Have Survived
Let’s face it, there are some horror film characters that are so unlikable that you can’t wait to see them get what is coming to them. At the same time, there are also so incredibly likable characters that you hate to see get killed off and it stings a little when they do. In my opinion, there are a ton of horror film characters that you care about and can’t help but root for that end up meeting a grisly demise, so I decided to narrow it down to ten of them that I hated to see get killed.
It Never Forgives, It Never Forgets: ‘THE GRUDGE’ (2004) Revisited – Retro Review
I remember seeing the trailer and TV spots for The Grudge when it was released and told my girlfriend (who is now my wife) that it just looked OK. I told her that it was probably just another crappy PG-13 rated remake of a superior Japanese film and that I didn’t really care anything about seeing it. About a week later we were bored and ended up going to see it one Sunday afternoon because there wasn’t anything else going on.
That’s Gotta Hurt: The Most Painful Deaths in the ‘FRIDAY THE 13TH’ Film Series
When I was a kid, I thought that Freddy Krueger was the coolest horror movie villain ever. As I got older (and Freddy got a lot goofier and a lot less scary) I realized that I liked Jason Voorhees better. One of the main reasons that I decided that Jason was better was because he always took people out in a variety of gory, creative, and brutal ways.
New Video – PCI Express Technology in Storage
The storage landscape is rapidly evolving, led by advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and High-Performance Computing (HPC). These applications generate massive amounts of data that must be instantaneously processed, stored and analyzed in real time. With its high bandwidth, scalability, power efficiency, and numerous other features, PCI Express® (PCIe®) technology is the backbone of the storage industry.
Oh, Mother!: Ranking the ‘PSYCHO’ Movies from the Worst to the Best - PopHorror
In 1960 the great Alfred Hitchcock introduced the world to Norman Bates in the movie Psycho (based on the Robert Bloch novel of the same name) and forever changed the way people looked at showers. The movie is an iconic horror film that spawned several sequels, a remake, and a TV series over the years, and it is just as popular now as it was when it was released. Some of the movies in the franchise are great, while some of them leave a lot to be desired for various reasons.
This is the Worst Vacation Ever: ‘OPEN WATER’ (2003) Revisited – Retro Review
Even though I love sharks, I have always had this irrational fear that I was going to be left out in the middle of the ocean all by myself without any hope of being rescued. I used to have nightmares about this when I was a kid, so when I first saw the trailer for Open Water it really spoke to me, and I knew immediately that I had to see this movie.
Winking in the dark
I bumped into a girl that I had gone to high school with at a house party, eight years after we graduated. Her name was Sandra, and WOW, looking at her was very easy to do. Striking hazel eyes big enough to get lost in causing me to stare just a little too long and warm olive skin normally reserved for Portuguese Royalty. I barely knew her in school, but man, did I ever want to get to know her now. We didn’t run in the same circles back then.
When Smart Sharks Attack: ‘Deep Blue Sea’ (1999) Revisited – Retro Movie Review
Back in the summer of 1999, I found myself recently single after a lengthy relationship and dealt with my grief by going to the movies. A lot. I went to the local movie theater at least once a week that summer, and saw films such as The Haunting, The Blair Witch Project, and countless others. I have always been a huge fan of sharks—and shark movies—so I was extremely excited to check out Deep Blue Sea. I thought that it looked awesome after seeing the trailer and reading about it in Fangoria.
