Polymorphism, Mesomorphism and Anti-Oxidant Character of Homoleptic Bis[(E)-2-(1-((o-ethylphenyl)imino)ethyl)phenolato-κ2-N,O]Ni/Cu(II) Complexesκ The proligand (E)-2-(1-((o-ethylphenyl)imino)ethyl)phenol (HL) reacts with nickel(II) or copper(II) acetate to yield homoleptic bis[(E)-2-(1-((o-ethylphenyl)imino)ethyl)phenolato-κ2-N,O]nickel(II) (1) and copper(II) (2) complexes.

Pseudotetrahedral copper(II)-complexes with enantiopure (R- or S)-2-(((aryl)ethylimino)ethyl)phenolate Schiff base ligands Condensation of 2-hydroxy-benzophenone (HL') with (R or S)-(Ar)ethylamine yields the enantiopure Schiff bases (S or R)-2-((E)-1-(1-(Ar)ethylimino)ethyl)phenol {Ar = C6H5 (S- or R-HL1), p-CH3OC6H4 (S- or R-HL2)}.

Enantiopure bis[{(R or S)-N-1-(Ar)ethyl-2-oxo-1-naphthaldiminato-κ N,O}]nickel( ) complexes {Ar = C H (1R or 1S), p-OMeC H (2R or 2S), and p-BrC H (3R or 3S)} are synthesized from the reactions between (R or S)-N-1-(Ar)ethyl-2-oxo-1-naphthaldimine and nickel( ) acetate. Circular-dichroism spectra and their density-functional theoretical simulation reveal the expected mirror image relationship between the enantiomeric pairs 1R/1S and 3R/3S in solution.
