What was your first job as a journalist?
I wrote for my school's newspaper, reporting on local film screenings and giving recommendations.

Yes!
How is social media changing news?
Higher volume of engagement, lower volume of reliable information.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Not fictional - the greatest journalist of all time is Robert Graysmith.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means you find the truth, you pressure corporations to increase transparency, and you work to advance the conversation.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Google, Bing for research, Wordpress and associated plugins, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, TikTok, CapCut.
Who do you wish followed you?
I prefer nobody of note followed me, I tend to speak my mind online - within reason.
Why did you become a journalist?
I want to paint current events with my brush as a POC Muslim in an industry that has very few of us.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I wrote a profile on a young Egyptian filmmaker who worked on Moon Knight, Hayat Aljowaily, and it was a great story.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
In the age of modern journalism, write your truth. You'll either be correct or a swathe of internet users will tell you you're wrong.
