Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, during my early childhood, when I wanted to imitate my mother using a typewriter to write her letters in 1989.

How is social media changing news?

There are more information channels, and information is personalized according to people's interests on social networks. There is also more immediacy, and the time elapsed between the unfolding of events and their dissemination to the general public is shorter.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Informing people about the complexity of societies without resorting to binarity. Giving a voice to all, without endorsing or trivializing certain words.

Who do you wish followed you?

Inspiring people

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

On my smartphone, since phones are now pocket computers. So we can continue to stay connected with our professional work tools, almost as if we had our own laptop.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I like Jean-Michel Hauteville's press articles , or Jameson Francisque's, because they are journalists who help spread the word about what's happening in the French-speaking Caribbean, despite the marginalization of the French-speaking world within the Americas.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

There's a widespread idea that reporting on human rights abuses contributes to heightened levels of tension and violence, whereas in many cases such violence was already present and didn't wait for the advent of the press to occur.
