DIRTY BIRDS by Morgan Murray Read by David Ferry
This audiobook is a comic tour de force. Murray's story, as narrated by Canadian actor David Ferry, is a laugh-out-loud combination love story, road trip, and so much more. It's part A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES and part ON THE ROAD, with a dash of Charles Bukowski. Ferry's performance is pitch-perfect as he captures the main character's combination of earnestness and awkwardness. Ferry's Leonard Cohen impersonation is a showstopper.

Gerryb’y
From Dirty Birds. Published by Breakwater Books in 2020. St. John’s was much further from Montréal than Milton ever imagined. The bus trip went fairly quickly through Québec, hugging the shore of the St. Lawrence as it grew wider and wider. Hundreds of farms, sliver-thin, stretching from the water, up the valley to God knows where. The opposite in every possible way from the massive flat squares of Saskatchewan.

The reincarnation of Romantic poets
If you ever meet someone who studies English literature, chances are they have an interest in a particular genre, time period, or theory. While I admire a variety of authors, styles, and periods, I always felt a deep connection to the writings produced by authors of the Romantic period.

We Should Be Talking About This
The political climate in Washington is polarized. Students all over the country are apathetic. Conflict and debate on heavy topics are typically avoided, and for a good reason. Up until this semester I refused to talk politics with anyone. I hate discourse, and I feel uncomfortable when people shove ideas down my throat. Confrontation has never been my strength. I thought that the best solution was to never discuss certain topics with friends such as anything do to with religion, policy, or politics.
Coping with the Stress of Finding a Summer Job
Two weeks away from summertime. It is here. A whole year of waiting for warm weather and beach trips. I wish I could say I feel relaxed and ready for the summer. Quite the opposite. These past couple of weeks before the break have been overwhelming and stressful. After months and months of applying to jobs I came up short. There were a lot of rejection emails that came my way. The whole process was discouraging. I really didn't even know where to look.

Being Prepared for a Phone Interview
I got an email and a phone call last week. YES! I got the interview. Phew! Applying for internships is a stressful process. I need experience in my major and I don't want to be a couch potato this summer. Getting a summer job or internship is challenging, and so is knowing what to do in a phone interview. I had never done a phone interview before, but I was hoping for the best. It went surprisingly better than I could have expected. Here are a few tips to keep in mind if you have any.
How I Embraced My Acne
My face is not perfect and neither am I. Acne. Ugh something I thought I would grow out of but instead I grew into. For the last two years my face has been covered in red blemishes. It has driven me insane, and I have tried just about everything to fix it. I am a vegan. I drink plenty of water (only one cup of caffeine. I workout nearly everyday. I have been to the dermatologist. And yet this this feels completely out of my control.
How Single College Girl’s Should Celebrate Valentine’s Day
A lot of people say Valentine’s Day is singles awareness day. I wholeheartedly disagree. While I cannot say I appreciate the over advertising and marketing of V-day. Though I have never been in a relationship on Valentine's day I cannot say I hate it. There are so many people I love that are worth acknowledging on this day, and even if I am single for the rest of my life I will probably still celebrate on the day of love. I plan on going out and spreading love as thick as peanut butter today.
Reasons Why You Should Get an On Campus Job
This past April I was hired at East Carolina's Recreation Center for the Adventure Leadership Program. At ALP we go on kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, hiking and even sky diving trips. We also handle boat rentals and work at the rock climbing wall in the recreation center. Along slide all of this we do leadership training for groups and organizations. Applying for an adventure leadership position was one of the best decisions I have made at my university.
Tips for Freshman Avoiding the 15
Nothing is more motivating to finish a work out than having a group full of people working out alongside you. As a college student there is limited time in the day. From the start of my classes until the evening my day is usually chalked full. If I work out in the morning I don’t have to worry about not having time later on. Also many fun events happen in the evening rather than the morning. College is about the full experience and I never want to miss a thing.

When chosing colleges many of us wanted to see what the campus looked like. For me I schduled several campus tours over spring break my junior year of high school.
