Shane Michael Singh’s Biography
Shane Michael Singh has more than 10 years of experience in journalism, publishing, brand strategy, digital strategy and talent relations. Most recently Shane was the Executive Editor of Brand, Content and Magazine at Playboy Enterprises and the de facto Editor in Chief of Playboy magazine, where he became the first gay man in the magazine's 66-year history to hold that position.

Shane completed undergraduate work at Harvard University and Northwestern University before graduating from the latter with a BS in Journalism with minors in gender studies and film. Before joining Playboy in 2012, Shane covered New York City's red carpets as an entertainment reporter and Chicago's dining scene as a researcher for Chicago magazine. He's garnered dozens of bylines in national and city publications including Out, the Chicago Tribune, Chicago magazine, Time Out, TV Guide Magazine and more.
Prior to becoming Playboy's Executive Editor in October 2018, Shane was the Executive Editor of Digital, where he launched Playboy's first-ever LGBTQ vertical. For his work rejuvenating Playboy's sex-culture and politics coverage, which included hiring White House and Hill correspondents credentialed by the Periodical Press Gallery, Shane was named a 30 Under 30 by Folio:, a publishing B2B. With his guidance, the company named its first transgender Playmate, in November 2017 (Ines Rau), which won the company a British LGBT Award for Best Brand of 2018. He also hired Playboy's first transgender Contributing Editor, Ashlee Marie Preston, in July 2019, and in 2015, Caroline "Tula" Cossey granted Shane her first press interview in 20 years.
Shane has received many honors for his work at Playboy, which included two digital product redesigns and one print redesign. He won an Eddie Award in 2017 for Best Article in a Men's Lifestyle Magazine for his March 2016 Playboy feature on the realities of deporting DACA-age undocumented immigrants. He led the magazine to eight LA Press Club nominations in his first year as the magazine's Executive Editor—the magazine's first nominations in three years—including one nomination for Best LGBT Reporting for a feature on the 2018 cancellation on Beirut Pride. The first print issue to be published under his leadership, Playboy's Winter 2019 quarterly, received wide acclaim for its photo feature on Ezra Miller, photographed by Ryan Pfluger. That issue won two 2019 Eddie Awards for overall excellence.
For his work reintroducing the brand of Playboy to a new generation of readers and consumers, Shane has been featured in The New York Times, NPR, Digiday, Monocle and more. His hobbies include recreational soccer, kickball, HIIT classes, streaming Taylor Swift, tequila tastings and finding things to squeeze fresh lime on.
