Stringer at a daily paper in suburban Chicago/Reporter at City News Bureau
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes!
How is social media changing news?
Much easier to slip up and type something you shouldn't. But infinitely faster to keep up with what's changing and to follow news anywhere
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
My guess is it should be Lou Grant but never watched it as an adult
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Being grateful to the people whom you meet and share their experiences with, the fortune of going places you might not see otherwise
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email more than not.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
A million websites of information. Too much to list in this day and age

Why did you become a journalist?
The routine: I wanted to tell stories and show what was happening to people from events that affected them
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I tried to create a small one there, but it didn't last! So moved on to Yearbook instead
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Two: 1) Trying to show the immediate and long-lasting impacts of Hurricane Katrina. 2) The fallout of the financial crisis.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Chances are you're multi-skilled and ready for anything. But if possible, don't lose sight of pursuing subjects that most interest you.
