Murty Vepuri’s Biography

Murty Vepuri is a renowned figure in the pharmaceutical industry, celebrated for his 50-year tenure and unwavering dedication to philanthropy. Raised in a small village, he was one of ten children in a family grounded in farming and religious music. Despite the challenges of limited resources and societal constraints, he excelled academically, attending government schools and, later, Loyola College for pre-university studies. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from Andhra University and a Master’s degree in Biochemical Engineering and Pharmaceutical Technology, setting a solid foundation for his future career.

He began his career at Hoechst in Mumbai, where a rotational internship broadened his experience in manufacturing and laboratory work. His quest for more excellent opportunities led him to the United States in 1977, where he started in primary roles and rapidly advanced through various pharmaceutical companies, including PurePack and Barr Labs. By 1978, he was integral to the operations at ICN Pharmaceuticals.

In 1984, he demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit by founding Able Labs, where he overcame substantial challenges to achieve significant successes, including the launch of generic Tranxene tablets and Monistat suppositories. Since 2003, he has been an advisor at KVK Tech, aiding in its mission to deliver high-quality, affordable medications.

His philanthropic efforts are as notable as his professional achievements. He established the Satyaram Health Clinic to provide accessible healthcare in India. He supported numerous educational and community initiatives, including the construction of a Hindu temple in New Jersey and contributing to the University of Kentucky's Department of Pharmacy.

His personal life reflects his business acumen, marked by a commitment to family, education, and community service. Together with his late wife, they supported various programs aimed at enhancing educational opportunities and childcare.
