OSA Holiday Lock-In
Frankfort, Ky — Before Kentucky State’s Finals Week arrived, the Office of Student Activities (OSA) threw what felt like one last party and celebration for the students, before our finals week of the Fall semester begins. On Friday night December 6, at 7pm in the Student Center, K-State’s holiday lock-in went on all night long, until 2am Saturday night. For the event, multiple activities were going on to keep the students engaged.
Lady Thorobreds defeated the Albany state Rams
Frankfort, Ky — With this being the last home game before the end of the Fall Semester, the Lady Thorobreds of K-State went on to face the Albany State University Rams at the Exum. The Thorobreds put up a good 1st half, that when it was done, the score was 31 to 22, with K-State in the lead. With the 3rd Quarter, while K-State managed to maintain the lead by the end of it, the Rams did manage to score more points by the end of it.
Thorobreds take on Albany State Rams
Frankfort, Ky — This is also the final home game for the Men’s before the Fall Semester ends. Despite Albany’s 7-point lead in the 1st five minutes, K-State managed to come back and score a few, but Albany managed to be in the lead 17-10 for the 1st 10 minutes of the 1st half. K-State would then come back and score 13 points against Albany. However, the Rams throughout the whole 1st half, arguably had the better defense, and managed to pace themselves as well against the Thorobreds.

2024 Presidential Election Recap
Frankfort, Ky – As this new school year starts, one subject students should be mindful of is the 2024 Presidential Election. With Election Day on November 4th, students and staff need to keep in the back of their mind, who are they going to choose between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump to be the commander in chief for the next four years. Let’s break down some facts and information regarding both candidates and their parties. First up, Kamala Harris.
2024 Presidential Election Approaches
As this new school year starts, one subject I feel students should be mindful of is the 2024 Presidential Election. KSU Vs. Alabama A&M
FRANKFORT, Ky. – After a rough first game against Virginia Union University, the Thorobreds looked to redeem themselves in their game against Alabama A&M University. Both teams suffered a first-game loss to start the season (Alabama’s first game being against the Auburn Tigers), and both teams strived to do better and win their second game of this Football season.
How do Princetonians feel about their courses, really? Machine learning analysis offers an answer.
As classes recommence for the spring 2024 semester, The Daily Princetonian data section took a look ahead, examining a common end-of-semester ritual for Princeton students: course evaluations. At the end of each semester, the University encourages students to submit numerical course evaluations, rating their courses on a scale from one to five in various categories.
5 takeaways from Princeton's tax returns
Nonprofit organizations, including Princeton, must fill out the Form 990 – a tax form detailing finances for everything from total investment income to the highest-paid employees. The Daily Princetonian analyzed the University’s public tax records in search of intriguing data. Records include contributions to government organizations, assistance with financing homes for employees, and payroll of big-name professors.
Spotlight: Beyond the Google Monopoly
In the last few years, I’ve taken Google’s monopoly in search for granted, and indeed I have cemented that dominance by turning to Google to help me out in a personal capacity many many many times a day… Want to know how to fix a broken zip? Google it. Want to go on a riverside walk in a new part of town? Google it. Want to do a sponsored run for a charity of your choice? Google it. Want to buy bubble tea near you? Google it.
People Are More Important Than Money, by Greg Gifford
You literally can’t do digital marketing without people—but somehow, even in today’s modern world, most agencies forget that. That top-down lack of empathy and understanding isn’t anything new, it’s “a tale as old as time” (ok, come on—most of you would be sorely disappointed if I didn’t have at least a few movie references in here). As the inimitable Ruth Burr-Reedy always says, “it’s called show business… not show friends”—but that doesn’t mean that people aren’t important.
How did COVID affect students’ course reviews? We broke it down.
In the spring of 2020, thousands of Princeton students were forced to shift to online learning. Professors, TAs, and preceptors rushed to adapt to Zoom while students struggled with burnout and a growing mental health crisis. As teaching methods changed, so too did course satisfaction, with evaluations and ratings seeing improvements in some departments and steep declines in others.
Supporting Our Ukrainian Brothers and Sisters
Today, as we watch the events in Ukraine unfold at a terrifying pace, all of our thoughts and wishes at BrightLocal are with our Ukrainian team members. Many of our team have been part of the BrightLocal family for many years and have been integral to the growth and success that we’ve been so lucky to achieve. We stand together, united with our Ukrainian brothers and sisters, against this unprovoked and unjust attack by Russian forces.
Study: 72% Of Consumers Trust Online Reviews As Much As Personal Recommendations
The findings of this year’s Local Consumer Review Survey (2012) show a positive shift in consumer trust and appreciation of online reviews. Approximately 72% of consumers surveyed said that they trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations, while 52% said that positive online reviews make them more likely to use a local business. This online survey was conducted between 15th January – 1st March 2012.
Search Engine Land
In February and March, BrightLocal conducted its 2015 Expert Citation Survey (which is an update on the same survey we ran in 2013). We invited 25 knowledgeable and experienced local search marketers to participate, and 22 completed the survey. A huge thanks to them for sharing the time and expertise. Below are the some of the findings of the survey. The full findings can be viewed online on BrightLocal.
Local Search Voted Most Powerful Channel For Local Businesses
In August, we at BrightLocal ran our annual survey looking at which digital marketing channels generate the most traffic, phone calls, quality leads and ROI for local businesses. We dub this the “Local Clicks & Calls” survey. The objective of the survey is to better understand which digital channels take up the most time/effort, which deliver the greatest leads, and which provide the best ROI.
Is Local Directory Traffic On The Rise Again?
I keep a close eye on the health of the local online directory market. It’s an important part of the local data ecosystem, and it’s central to the citation work done by us (at my company, BrightLocal) and by many thousands of local search marketers. I’ve been monitoring the traffic fortunes of a number of directory sites since 2011, and the charts and analysis below are a follow-up to similar data I shared last year.
Local businesses trump big businesses when it comes to delivering on-site updates
At BrightLocal, we often focus our research on external SEO factors, exploring the effects of and opinions towards citations, reviews, Google My Business and links. Without these, it’s very difficult to rank. However, in this post I want to take a closer look at on-page SEO. I want to understand the impact on-site optimization has on rankings for local businesses and the speed at which such changes can be delivered and capitalized upon.
Is selling SEO services getting harder or are SEOs just not good at it?
Is selling SEO services getting harder, or are SEOs just not that good at it? I ask this question this because I’ve recently had a number of conversations with SEOs — freelance and at agencies — and almost all complained about difficulties in pitching and converting SMBs. It’s well-documented that business owners get bombarded with calls and emails from SEOs trying to convince them that they need their services and that they can deliver the moon-on-a-stick.
60% of local SEOs are outsourcing more tasks in 2016 vs. 2015
SEO outsourcing is a common practice in digital marketing, as it enables us to accomplish cumbersome or repetitive tasks that we might not otherwise have time for. It also gives access to expertise that a company may not have in-house, which is great for tackling complicated, specialist or technical tasks.
What different consumer groups really want from local business websites
In February at BrightLocal, we published an annual survey that explored consumer attitudes towards local business websites. The survey looked at what consumers expect, want and don’t want from those websites, as well as how consumers prefer to contact a local business after viewing their website.
Do SEOs At Larger Agencies Earn More Than Those At Smaller Agencies?
In December, my company (BrightLocal) published the results of our fourth annual Local SEO Industry Survey. The results gave us the very latest insights into local search, from the perspective of those who work in the industry. From the 1,972 respondents, there was a largely positive outlook, with 78 percent of SEOs believing that 2016 was going to be a great year for business.
78% Of SEOs Believe That 2016 Is Going To Be A "Great" Year For Business
At BrightLocal, we’ve recently published the annual update to our Local SEO Industry Survey, a report that looks closely at the local search industry — the people and companies that operate in it, the services they offer, what they charge and their outlook for the 12 months ahead.
Google Kills Off Google+ Local but is Still Committed to Local Search
Advertisement In a major update to Google+, Google has removed all local business info from Google+. Is it the end-of-the line for Google+ Local or just another reformat? Myles Anderson December 7, 2015 ⋅ 6 min read So, guess what?
Local Resource: 50 Top International Citation Sites
We at BrightLocal (my company) recently conducted extensive research into both International citations and Local citations in ten different countries. There are some useful blog posts and resources that list Local citations but none we could find that provided a comprehensive list of International citation sites. Very simply, these are sites and mapping services that carry business listings in multiple countries.
87% of Potential Customers Won’t Consider Businesses With Low Ratings
We at BrightLocal have just published the findings of the 2015 Local Consumer Review Survey. This annual exploration into the consumption, attitudes and influence of local business reviews by consumers is now in it fifth year, giving us half a decade of trends to analyze and compare. In this year’s survey, we asked 15 questions and had 2,354 people complete the survey, with 90 percent of respondents in the US and 10 percent in Canada. You can find the full survey data and charts on BrightLocal.com.
Local Businesses Squeezed Out Of Organic Search By Larger Websites
A search engine study completed in early July by BrightLocal (my employer) found that local businesses are being squeezed out of organic results for high volume “head” terms, but they get greater share of voice for long-tail and geo-modified terms.

Citation Inconsistency Is No.1 Issue Affecting Local Ranking
This post is a follow-up from my November post, in which I shared some interesting findings from the current InsideLocal webinar series. During InsideLocal webinars, we survey the audience, which consists of 500+ local search consultants and SMB owners. The vast majority of attendees are search consultants/agencies, with 90-95% located in USA and Canada (so the data are skewed to that sector’s experience and location).
58% Of Local Marketers Will Change Tactics After Pigeon Update
There has been much expert analysis and published research on the impact of Google’s Pigeon Update. In this post, I am going to share the results of some recent polls we conducted with attendees on a recent InsideLocal webinar, the topic of which was “The Impact of Pigeon.” (Note: webinar recording can be watched here.) We wanted to measure the experiences and observations of the 600+ SEOs and SMBs on the webinar to see how they compared to the published, “expert” viewpoints.

We at BrightLocal have released the findings of our annual Local Consumer Review Survey, which reveals the growing importance of online reviews in the purchasing decision. About Local Consumer Review Survey 2014 This is the 4th year we have conducted this study into consumer usage and attitudes toward online reviews. In May-June, we sent a questionnaire to our local consumer panel and received 2,104 completed survey responses. All respondents are from the USA (90%) and Canada (10%).
Which Is The Most "Generous" Search Engine To Local Businesses?
Earlier this month, one of our customers asked an interesting question in a training workshop. They wanted to know which search engine displayed the most local results for different types of search terms. Google gets the lion’s share of focus in the SEO world, particularly in Local. They also have the most developed local search product (vs. Bing and Yahoo), but does this mean that they present more local results to searchers?
62% Of Marketers Say Local Search Is Getting Harder
During the recent InsideLocal webinar series, I’ve had the chance to gather the opinions and feelings of the hundreds of search agencies, consultants, “in-bound” marketers and business owners who logged in to listen. We ran a number of on-the-spot surveys (or polls) during each webinar, which helped to complement the expert views provided by our speakers.

The Building Blocks Of Good Local SEO
It’s been a few months since I have written for SEL. I had to take a short ‘sabbatical’ to hunker down and focus on a major phase of development and updates on our own site. It’s nice to get back to blogging but I have to admit that I feel a bit off the pace. Writing is like exercise; once you are out of practice the first time back takes longer and feels harder to produce content that you’re happy with.
How Users Search For Local Businesses + 5 Tips To Optimize Local Listings
In a recent staff meeting, it emerged that the most regular question our customer support agents get asked by our customers* is: From a local search optimization point of view, it’s essential for local businesses to include local terms (aka “geo-modifiers”) in their site content and link building activities. Google needs to know where you’re located and which areas you serve in order to return your business as a search result for a relevant, local search.
