1 Introduction A large number of recent studies have focused on the importance of understanding linkages between multiple sectors relevant for sustainability. One example involves food, water, energy, and air pollution (Domingo et al., 2021; Qureshi et al., 2016).
We construct a rice paddy biogeochemical cycle model to investigate processes governing rice mercury sources, and to understand factors influencing spatiotemporal variability in Chinese rice mercury concentrations.
Between 2005 and 2012, US emissions of nitrogen oxides (NO ) and sulfur dioxide (SO ) decreased by 42% and 62%, respectively. These species, as well as ammonia (NH ), are precursors of inorganic fine aerosols, which scatter incoming shortwave radiation and thus affect climate. Scaling aerosol concentrations to emissions, as might be done for near-term climate projections, neglects nonlinear chemical interactions.
