Tornado damage defies logic in Pilger

Tornado damage defies logic in Pilger

Norfolk Daily News — During my internship at the Daily News, a series of tornadoes tore through Northeast Nebraska, destroying several homes and one town--Pilger--in its tracks. Seventy-five percent of the homes and the entire business district were destroyed. State-wide and national news organizations were at the scene to cover the destruction. This story is one of about 11 other natural disaster stories I wrote over the course of two weeks.

Washington Times — NORFOLK, Neb. (AP) - Trent Bosler just remembers the noise. The noise of the hail smacking the ground, the thunder and the 40 mph winds all combining to make a classic super cell. He watched from less than a quarter-mile away as the tornado swallowed the ground.

Norfolk Daily News — Yambul, Bulgaria, was a rather ominous place. Memories of the Berlin Wall, which came down only a few years earlier, still hung in the air. The grass stood almost a foot tall in the cracks of the airplane runway, and barbed wire fences stretched around the perimeter of the airport. Armed soldiers stood just behind the fence and guarded the area. It wasn't exactly a warm welcome for foreigners; not to mention the fact that every sign was written in a Southern Slavic language, making getting around on your own impossible. But Gigi and Steven Bettendorf didn't travel 6,000 miles to check out the sights.

Daily Nebraskan — Hey readers, To put it shortly, my best friends are geniuses. I met them freshman year in the ever-so-popular Neihardt dorm. Cough and say "Nerdhardt" all you want, but it was the perfect dorm (when you get over the tiny rooms and that somewhat moldy smell).
