Foundational genomic resources for date palm ( Phoenix dactylifera ): A gap-free, telomere-to-telomere phased assembly of Ajwa and 19 high-quality genome assemblies
Abstract Phoenix dactylifera L. is an economically, nutritionally, and culturally important fruit crop in the arid and semi-arid regions of the Middle East and North Africa. Here, we present a gap-free, telomere-to-telomere reference genome of the variety Ajwa, along with 19 additional high-quality assemblies (18 female and 1 male). These assemblies reveal updated, corrected chromosome assemblies validated through cytogenetics, Hi-C and optical mapping.
Oryza genome evolution through a tetraploid lens - Nature Genetics
Abstract Oryza is a remarkable genus comprising 27 species and 11 genome types, with ~3.4-fold genome size variation, that possesses a virtually untapped reservoir of genes that can be used for crop improvement and neodomestication.
Multitrait engineering of Hassawi red rice for sustainable cultivation
Abstract Sustainable agriculture requires locally adapted varieties that produce nutritious food with limited agricultural inputs. Genome engineering represents a viable approach to develop cultivars that fulfill these criteria. For example, the red Hassawi rice, a native landrace of Saudi Arabia, tolerates local drought and high-salinity conditions and produces grain with diverse health-promoting phytochemicals.
Pan-genome inversion index reveals evolutionary insights into the subpopulation structure of Asian rice - Nature Communications
Sequence and assembly Seed and/or tissue from O. rufipogon (IRGC 106523) and O. punctata (IRGC 105690) species were obtained from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippines. The O. rufipogon accession was selected as a true O. rufipogon representative based on its origin (Papua New Guinea, reproductively isolated from rice cultivation) and phenotype.
