The Book of Silver Linings
In her second novel, THE BOOK OF SILVER LININGS, Nan Fischer takes us on a journey that doesn't transport us to exotic locales. It is, instead, an internal journey, inside the psyche of a young woman named Constance Sparks. Like many of us, Constance matured into an adult based on her childhood and the love (or lack thereof) that she received.

Author Nan Fischer shares her system for creating magic in a contemporary novel that readers will believe-even if they're a bit skeptical.

Psychic-medium Sylvie Young starts every show with her origin story, telling the audience how she discovered her abilities. After a catastrophic reporting error, Thomas Holmes’s next story at the L.A. Times may be his last, but he’s got a great personal pitch.

Literary Embroidery project #WeeklyWrapUp
Hello Readers! I hope you all are well. I wasn’t writing this weekly wrap up posts regularly this month as I couldn’t read much. I read one book a week this whole month, nothing much was happening and there is always so much to do. I felt it hard to keep up with things this month and on top of everything there is my kid’s ongoing therapy, social get-togethers, #15DaysReelsChallenge I’m participating in, and many other things… and so I didn’t see a point to share the life or reading updates.

Adapting to climate change in the garden
There's no better way to plan your garden season than looking at the previous one. Last year, the last frost was June 8, and our first frost was Sept. 8, accompanied by snow. That's a pretty short growing season! This is not the new normal, because some years are warmer, extending the growing season on each end by weeks. Either way, the weather is more and more unpredictable and gardeners are increasingly frustrated. Over the last five years, I've seen summer days and nights get warmer.
Busy in the garden in the merry month of May
By Nan Fischer I'm not sure how merry the month of May is this year, but gardening goes on. This is the big planting month. Aside from providing food and beauty for us, gardening is soothing and creative, and it fulfills a need for connection and purpose. We are fortunate we have this activity to stay busy. And busy we will be in May. As I write this, it is 28 degrees on my back porch. Fingers crossed the extra straw I put on my plants in the vegetable beds will protect them.
Spring winds and seed starting
By Nan Fischer For Taos News I passed one of my neighbors on the road in the end of February. She said she had been enjoying my gardening articles in the paper but added that she only has a small flower bed in her courtyard. She did say she took my advice to leave dead flower stalks and other debris in the fall for bird food and pollinator shelter over winter. She was wondering when she should clean it up.
Growing Ancient Legumes
Invite rich nutrients and history into your garden with chickpeas, one of the oldest crops in the cultivated world. By Nan Fischer Summer 2019 In the culinary world, chickpeas are often ground into flour; cooked, mashed, and spiced as hummus; or mashed, spiced, and fried as falafel. They’re also used whole in soups, stews, curries, and as a garnish. Cumin, ginger, garlic, cayenne, turmeric, and coriander traditionally accompany chickpeas in these dishes.
Let It Snow (But Not Too Much)
Winter is here in the northern hemisphere, and if you live in a temperate zone, you will probably get some snow. Snow is fun and pretty, but when it piles up on your roof, it’s a hazard. Take some precautions with each storm, and you and your house will be safe. Did you ever notice how quiet it is when it snows? Sounds are muffled, because of the air pockets the flakes make. Those same air pockets act as insulation.
Simple, Creative Thanksgiving Table Ideas
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love the foods, the season, the colors, and a gathering of people. Whether I’m with friends or family, the day always feels comfortable and laid back. There are no rules. Just eat and have a good time. Because the food is so much fun, it’s equally fun to dress up the house, the yard and the table. I must have gotten that from my mother, who was a highly creative interior designer.
Landscaping: Planning A Winter Landscape Out Your Window
Winter is the time to analyze your landscape from inside to make the views out every window interesting. When you look out your windows right now in the middle of winter, what do you see? Are there interesting tree branches catching the light? Is the intricacy of the fencing wearing a layer of snow? Or is your yard a vast expanse of white? Landscape design needs to provide year-round interest, not just showy and fragrant flowers in summer.
