Letter: Trading by public officials
The Office of Government Ethics just released a disclosure that President Trump conducted more than 3,600 trades with a combined vale of over $750 million in Jan thru March of 2026. Many of these trades were in securities in companies over which The President has influence. Add to that the trading that STILL goes on in Congress ($213 million to-date in 2026) by our representatives in companies under the direct purview of their respective committees and it’s not a pretty picture.
Letter: Ciscomani lies again
Well, the Republicans forced through their so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” aka Big Incredibly Ugly Bill to those of us that care about the majority of people who are not ultra wealthy and will now suffer unbelievably much because of the cuts to Medicaid, food stamps and multiple other programs that help millions of people who, through no fault of their own, are having a hard time getting by now, much less after these cuts come in to play.
Letter: Lies about Trump tax cuts
I have been infuriated by the barrage of advertisements from supposed small business owners touting how much they depend on those tax cuts. Like everything from this Administration, lies. First, if they got more than a $1,000 from those tax cuts, then they are not a small business.
Letter: Government hypocrisy
The Trump Administration has been using antisemitism as its excuse for arresting and threatening to deport those who exercised their right of free speech on college campuses, as well as an excuse for bullying universities by withholding grant money until they “mend their ways”. Columbia has already given in to this blackmail, to its discredit.
Letter: Re: the Aug. 19. article “Local opinion: For Trumpers, a pathway to redemption”
I just returned from visiting 7 Baltic countries with nothing but admiration for all of them, but particularly those that were formerly under Soviet occupation and, having won independence, value their freedom and democracy. We could learn a lot from these countries.
Letter: Re: the June 1. article “Letter: Hypocritical magas”
It is clear that Republicans have lost all desire to support the mainstays of our Democracy, (rule of law, checks and balances and all citizens’ right to vote) shown by the fact that they are following in lock-step all of Trump’s lies and whining about being found guilty by a jury of his peers. He was given all the opportunities to present his case that any other defendant has in a country that believes in the rule of law, and he was found guilty.
Letter: Child Tax Credit stalled in Senate
I urge all Arizonans to write to Senators Kelly and Sinema to urge them to push for a vote on the Child Tax Credit bill on the Senate floor. During the pandemic, the Child Tax Credit kept 3 million children out of poverty, and while this bill is not estimated to be as effective, it will still have a major impact. Per usual, it is Republicans who are blocking the bill from reaching the floor for a vote.
Letter: Re: the April 14. article “Arizona opinion: Shame on Schweikert: Why his support for Republicans' budget proposal could spell disaster for Arizona”
I applaud Dr. Goodrick’s opinion piece about the Republican (aka MAGA) 2025 Budget proposal. It demonstrates yet again that the only people Trump and the MAGA Republicans, including our own Juan Ciscomani, are interested in serving are the very rich and those who support their very conservative views on women’s and LGBTQ+’s rights to control their own bodies. In addition, they clearly do not believe that healthcare should be a universal right, available to all irrespective of their ability to pay.
Letter: Re: the Jan. 30. article “Letter: World in chaos under Joe Biden”
The writer from Green Valley would apparently like Biden to bomb the heck out of Iran, resulting in the entire Middle East blowing up! The countries in the Middle East need to solve their own problems, and are trying to do so with help from the Biden Adminstration, but not controlled by, which would do nothing but result in resentment.
Letter: Democracy at Risk
Re: the Jan. 14 article "A second coming that would endanger democracy." I agree with Terry Bracy’s opinion piece on January 14: Donald Trump is a threat to Democracy, and the idea of him representing Christianity or community of any kind is a joke. Donald Trump’s religion is Donald Trump, and Trump’s idea of community is restricted to supporters of Trump.

Re: the May 14 article "Teachers aren't 'brainwashing' students." Finally, someone wrote something sensible about what is really being taught to our kids! In all the crazy conspiracy theories I have read, nobody thought to actually speak to an expert: a teacher! Certainly not our legislators, who would rather get themselves headlines about how they are protecting our children from the evils of being taught history and civics rather than actually funding our schools so that kids might learn...
