Honor My Mother and Father?
Honor My Mother and Father? What if my parents are abusive? Nancy Ortberg Q. How should I treat my abusive parents? A. First of all, I'm so sorry for your abuse. Coming from the people who were supposed to love and affirm you, it's damaging beyond words. I applaud your efforts to get to a place where you might be able to show them some honor. When the Bible instructs us to honor our parents (in Exodus 20:12 and Ephesians 6:2, among other places), it's guiding us in a God-honoring direction.
When Is Enough, Enough?
It's amazing what generosity does in the lives of people who learn to say, "Enough." Introduction Sometimes it's not just a practice but a word—just one word—that God uses in our minds and our hearts to transform us. When you were kids, you may have had the opportunity to use a rock tumbler. You take an old, dirty, jagged rock that doesn't look like much, and you put it in this machine and close the door and turn it on. For days all you hear is the clinking of the rock inside.
How can I figure out what God wants me to do with my life?
There are few things more attractive, more noticeable, than someone who's pursuing an activity he or she loves and is good at. We've all had the remarkable experience of sitting in a classroom listening to a teacher who engages and awakens the deepest parts of who we are. I have a friend who runs a gardening service, and as I listen to him talk about keeping a family's yard looking nice, the joy and skill he brings to what he does are obvious.
Is it a sin to marry a non-Christian?
I think you're asking the wrong question here. The real question should be, "Why would you want to marry a non-Christian?" God's vision for marriage is that of a place where a "culture of two" is created. Marriage is about sharing our lives, and about the "oneness" that emerges from that shared culture. Marriage becomes the central situation in which we grow to become what God intends us to be, the context in which we also lovingly raise our children to know him.

What Do Muslims Believe?
We should befriend those who practice Islam, but to do so we need to understand what they believe. Today’s neighborhoods are diverse, and Christians often rub shoulders with people from different religious and cultural backgrounds. To choose relationship is, I believe, reflective of God’s nature. Jesus told us to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world (Matt. 5:13–16). When we interact with people whose beliefs differ from our own, we become the salt with our friendship.
The Jekyll and Hyde of Motherhood
Before I had children I worked full time. I had a job that required professional dress, some ability to organize things, a briefcase, and appointments. While I wasn't turning the medical community on its ear, I enjoyed what I did. But I noticed one thing as I drove between appointments: moms were everywhere. I would notice them in their sweatpants pushing strollers and carrying babies. When I drove by parks, I would notice them pushing kids on swings and chasing squealing toddlers.
