Nancy Snow

Nancy Snow is Professor Emeritus of Communications at California State University, Fullerton, and a three-time Fulbright Scholar alumna to Germany (University of Freiburg), Japan (Sophia University), and Greece (Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences). In AY 2022-2023, Snow was a distinguished visiting professor and faculty advisor in the Schwarzman Scholars Program at Tsinghua University. In 2020, Dr. Snow held the Walt Disney Faculty Endowed Chair in Global Media at Schwarzman College. Snow made history as Japan's first specially appointed Pax Mundi ("Distinguished") Professor of Public Diplomacy at Kyoto University of Foreign Studies (2016-2022).

Snow is a contributing writer to Nikkei and Nikkei Asia, an Adjunct Fellow at the Institute of Contemporary Asian Studies (ICAS), Temple University Japan, and a Senior Advisor in Strategic Communications at Kreab Tokyo. She is also a Strategic Communications Advisor at the International Security Industrial Council (ISIC) of Japan, an Advisor to the OIST Foundation, and a Senior Fellow with the Sympodium Institute for Strategic Communications.

Snow held graduate faculty teaching appointments at the S.I. Newhouse School at Syracuse University and the Annenberg School at the University of Southern California. She received her doctorate in International Relations from American University's School of International Service in Washington, D.C., ranked by Foreign Policy magazine as one of the world's top 10 best IR programs. Snow is an alumna of the Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF) Program, where she was a specialist in cultural affairs and international exchange at the U.S. Information Agency, a refugee and migration analyst, and a Capitol Hill liaison at the U.S. Department of State.

Snow was a visiting research professor at the Institute for Journalism, Media and Communication Studies at Keio University, where she was also affiliated as a Social Science Research Council Abe Fellow. Visiting senior professorships include The Lauder School in Israel (Reichman University/IDC-Herzliya), Japan (Keio, Sophia), Malaysia (UiTM), and China (Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication; Schwarzman College), along with teaching in the top two U.S. flagship institutions in graduate-level public diplomacy, USC and Syracuse.

Snow has published sixteen books, most recently as lead author (with Garth Jowett and Victoria O'Donnell) of the 8th edition of the widely adopted textbook, "Propaganda and Persuasion" (Sage, 2025). She is the author of the forthcoming "Battleship Diplomat: The Enduring Legacy of the USS Missouri" (Naval Institute Press, 2026). Her latest Japanese translation book is "The Mystery of Japan's Information Power" (Bunshindo, 2022). Recent academic texts are the "Routledge Handbook of Public Diplomacy," 2nd edition, with Nicholas J. Cull, and "The SAGE Handbook of Propaganda," with Paul Baines and Nicholas O'Shaughnessy.
