Celebrating 20 years of the Food Supplements Directive
2022 marks the 20th Anniversary of Directive 2002/46/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 10 June 2002 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to food supplements, the so-called ‘Food Supplements Directive’. Food supplements are foodstuffs containing concentrated sources of nutrients, vitamins, minerals or other substances with a nutritional or physiological effect, helping people reach an optimal nutritional intake by “supplementing” their diet.
From vision to reality - APEAL sets out six policy recommendations to keep steel packaging in the circular loop
In 2021, for the ninth consecutive year, APEAL reported an increase in the overall recycling rate of steel packaging in Europe. The new all-time high of 84% represented an increase of 1.5% and highlighted steel as one of the most sustainable packaging solutions available. Meanwhile, despite the excellent recycling rates for steel packaging achieved across Europe, APEAL believes that more can be done to help Europe achieve a more circular economy.

They all concern military and security issues. Austria also commits itself to defend its neutrality “with all means available,” meaning that it is an armed neutrality. Austria’s neutrality is not only enshrined in its constitution but also based on international law.

All policy areas need to be re-assessed, and it is important that people do not only repeat the story that they have already been telling for years but are ready to adapt to the new situation. The crisis and subsequently increasing food prices, which dramatically challenge low-income countries for example in Africa, require compromises from environmental politicians.
A closer look at the Commission’s proposed Regulation on deforestation-free products
In our quest to satisfy an insatiable appetite for products containing soy, beef, palm oil, wood, cocoa and coffee, Europe is contributing to the deforestation and forest degradation of many of the world’s remaining natural areas. Forests support our global biodiversity, store enormous amounts of carbon dioxide and are home to many Indigenous groups. Their destruction has significant consequences for the climate crisis and future food security, not to mention forest-dependent communities.
