In October of 1999, I was just a year out of college. I was working at my first ad agency, I was freshly single, and life's possibilities were limitless. And then I decided to adopt a dog. My parents cautioned against it, saying I'd never be able to travel around the world like my sister did, that a dog was a liability, but I was okay with that. Visiting the shelter weekly, sometimes daily, I waited for the right dog to speak to me. And then one day, she did.

For those who haven't been to The Tin Can (Alehouse dropped from the moniker), suffice to say the venue hosts live music six nights a week. Tonight's bill offers two bands from out of town (and a local act), The Grownup Noise (Boston) and Goldenboy (Diamond Bar). The Grownup Noise are a six piece folk/pop/rock band that love touring and playing in the live setting. Their music is rooted in Americana, but contains many elements that are easy to listen to. Perfect to cure the midweek blues.

Jack Daniel's is already one of my favorite brands for all they do for music...I mean, as the main sponsor of SoundDiego, SoundDiego Live and SoundDiego TV, they kinda keep my freelancing wheels rolling, but aside from that, I like to throw back some Tennessee whiskey every now and again, too.

There aren't many bands that can combine folk, psychedelic and experimental rock in such a wonderfully weird way as 'rural America' born, New York City based three piece Akron/Family. Valid comparisons include Maps & Atlases, early Animal Collective and Megafaun, though any of those bands would have a hard time looking like they enjoy themselves as much as the trio that took the stage on the UCSD campus last Wednesday.

So I have been meaning to catch up but let's just say I'm taking my time getting into the swing of a new year, and the time I set aside to write seems to disappear quickly when I'm bouncing around town on my new bike or going to the zoo or hanging with Darren or playing Words With Friends (guilty). So anyway, you've heard that 4th & B and now Anthology have closed down.

The year has nearly come to an end, literally and also when it comes to looking for touring bands to visit San Diego. This happens each and every year but has an upside since local bands bridge the gap until the tour cycle renews itself in 2013. Three of San Diego's best will be gathering this Friday at the Belly Up in Solana Beach. Headlining will be none other than North County's alt-rockers Dead Feather Moon.

I am so excited for tonight! In fact, it was one of those nights where I was up all night working just so I wouldn't have the cloud of email hovering over my head. Instead of sleeping this morning, Darren and I went on a nice bike ride to test out the Biria I'm likely going to purchase. Now I'm completely wiped out and ready to catch some sleep, but in a few hours I'll be all revved up. I hope to see some friendly faces tonight at the Casbah.

I am sooo sorry for not posting this earlier in the week, but time just slipped by and I've more or less been offline for the last 30 hours. Enough about that...here's the lineup for this year's Wrex The Halls. You have ONE HOUR left for presale tickets (Click the flyer) , or you can snatch them up tomorrow after 10am.

. Hailed as '...one of America's best-ever Psychedelic Syndacites' (Pitchfork), SOoA's sound is characterized mainly by drony guitars, epic kit work and understated vocals. More from Pitch Perfect: "Six Organs of Admittance's Ascent is the rollicking realization of the Six Organs full band, electric experience. Six Organs as an electric entity is not without precedent.

I dug through the archives for this old photo of me and Brian Aubert of Silversun Pickups. It was taken at the Open Air Theatre a few years ago. I've been a fan for a long time now and have been lucky to see the band live several times as well as some cool meet and greets and such and I just think they're rad people, but yesterday's email from their publicist really made me smile. I haven't commented too much on this year's election, but of course I'm paying attention.

A few months ago, Crocodiles performed at the Casbah. I was supposed to do an on-camera interview for SoundDiego TV, but since their latest release, Endless Summer, wasn't released until June 5, their publicist thought it would be a better idea to wait until the album was out. About a week after the show, I was at the back bar at the Casbah, over-enjoying an evening with Bulleit Rye and ginger ale, and Charles Rowell and Brandon Welchez were hanging around.

Earlier this week I got a press release about Hot Water Music's new album, Exister. The bad news is that tour will not be coming through San Diego (the nearest stop is in Anaheim on 9/29). The good news is that my friends at Slacker worked out a private performance here in San Diego. Originally it was going to be a session for a small crowd, but after the band's sold out shows, they want to pack the room, which means YOU, my loyal readers have a chance to attend the show.

So there was awhile there where I was hanging out with Colin Clyne a whole bunch and he was gigging all over. Well, I don't know if you've wondered where he's been, but besides travelling a whole lot with his wife over the holidays and then for work much of the past three months, Fiona and Colin recently welcomed their new daughter, Catherine Clyne into the world. She was born on March 31, 2012 at 5:14pm at UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest. Catherine weighed in at 8lbs 10oz.

Here we are on the back half of our US tour with the Kaiser Chiefs and we are still somewhat reeling from the extreme spectacle/cluster-fuck that is SXSW. Great times but every time we leave Austin I feel like I've taken another few years off my life. Oh well…all in the name of Rock n Roll. Before I go tits up, here's a little bit of a Texas recap: Dallas and Houston were great shows. We wound up running into The Silent Comedy and had a great time post show hitting a nearby bar for drinks.

That said, I was given the opportunity to screen a documentary called RE:GENERATION. The film is largely supported by the GRAMMYS foundation, so it is worth bearing in mind, but I found the film to be completely intriguing. The premise is this: take five producers, give them a genre to explore, have them assemble musicians within the genre and create something brand new out of something old.

I've had the good fortune of seeing the band at least twice before as well as the Jeff Tweedy show at Spreckels, but it was really cool running into so many friends who were seeing the band for the first time. There were 8 tickets in our group, so before the show we met at Stout where it was happy hour (which is GREAT on a Sunday) and watched the majority of the game. I haven't watched much football this season, but I still think it's a bummer when two East Coast teams go to the big game.

Friday Night: Dylan Leblanc at the Casbah I know the headliner for the Casbah's early show on Friday is Rich Robinson, brother of Chris and a founding member of The Black Crowes. That's great. Black Crowes were a radio staple growing up and it's great that he's coming. I think his music is more my speed than his brother and I'm looking forward to seeing him. You can grab a download here (or just click the arrow to hear the song).

There was a point where hip-hop was the soundtrack to my life. This point was somewhere in the mid 90s, punk had broke years ago and flew too close to the sun, grunge had all but died or been turned into something more cumbersome than Seven Mary Three. But hip-hop was a fresh and vital perspective on my city surroundings. At the time I lived in Boston, attending Boston College, which is to say I played NHL 94, got stoned and listened to hip-hop.

Halloran Returns To 91X I really planned on sleeping in, but couldn't resist checking email while letting Pascha out to handle her business and I just thought I had to share this with you before I crawl back into bed: Michael Halloran is going back on the air at 91X. He'll be the new host of Loudspeaker after the spot was left vacant when Rowley accepted an amazing opportunity at Slacker.

Charles Bradley & The Menahan Street Band w/ The Heavy Guilt @ Belly Up- 08.25.11 One of the great things about music is its ability to constantly surprise you- a band you've never heard of playing as an opening act and blowing you away. Established acts reaffirming why you first got into them in the sort of way that makes your hair stand on end. Classic sounds that unexpectedly find a revitalization. New sounds that break compositional 'rules' to amazing effect.

Thursday Night: Sondre Lerche at the Belly Up- Win Free Tickets!! Sondre Lerche’s “Two Way Monologue” was wedged between two music videos I was viewing sometime back in 2004, and from the quirky flair yet simply magnetic pop hooks that piped through my speakers, I knew the Norwegian singer/songwriter was someone to keep an eye out for.

Low Volts here- Just got back from an action-packed week in Nashville, Tennessee. Flew out with my 2 guitars, kickdrum, all five tambourines and my throat-box to play some shows and film a music video. Played a fun show at The Basement and saw the singer from Deer Tick and his fiancé Nikki from Those Darlins in the crowd so that was kinda nice. Overheard them talking about eating fried Cicada larvae…nasty…I wanna try it.

Blackout Party in the studio making new record Hi everyone, Brian from Blackout Party here. I'm excited Rosey invited me to share some about the last week we spent in the studio. Thanks to her, and to all the loyal SDdialedin readers, enjoy... On Wednesday, April 20th we set up shop at Lost Ark studios to make a record with Mike Butler producing.

So I was really gonna stay offline today, but I just got a press release about Breaking Laces and it's kinda funny. Billy and Seth of Breaking Laces were the guys I hung out with on Friday at Bar 96 in Austin. Seth wasn't doing well when we met. Apparently he'd fallen and hurt his wrists. I was sure at least one was broken judging by the swelling. He sat with me and asked me to text his friends from his phone to let them know he was ok.

Today was a much fuller day than yesterday. It started with sharing a 100 degree hotel room with my buddy Bob... (sigh... I'm in charge of the room temp tonight, Bob...) At 7:00, I drove to KRUZ 97.5 in Santa Barbara to do a radio interview with my good buddy Matt Stone, who runs the morning show. I played a few songs, joked around with him about music and plugged the expo. I think the best part was when an obviously hungover girl called into the station and asked for a taxi.

That last post was supposed to be this post, but when you're inspired to write, you just gotta go with it. This is another photo from yesterday, up on a bluff above OB. I do have some news to share with you, however, so now that all that other stuff is off the brain, here goes. First, the great CityBeat Demo Review issue is coming up and MONDAY is the final deadline for submissions.
