Raiders right back where they left off
Sophomore Caiden Kiani and junior Rodrigo Freitas each scored twice for the Raiders as the Watertown boys’ soccer team stifled Gloucester, 5-1, in first-round MIAA Division 3 playoff action at Victory Field on Friday night. No. 4 Watertown (13-5-1) opened their North championship title defense with a comfortable win against the No. 13 Fishermen (5-12-1).
Watertown tops rival Lynnfield once again
Watertown and Lynnfield have developed a contentious rivalry over the last few years. In football and basketball, the teams continue to face-off in important tournament games. But over the last three matchups, there has been no doubt which school has the upper hand. Sophomore David Manoukian had the game’s only touchdown as well as the game-sealing interception for Watertown (2-6), which snapped a six-game losing streak to beat the Pioneers (1-7) on Friday, Oct. 26, 2018, at Victory Field.
Fenway Park prepares for World Series in style
Before the Red Sox took on the Dodgers in the 114th World Series, Fenway Park opened its doors for a special night of food, drink, and celebration! As we stood outside on Lansdowne Street shivering, waiting for the gates of Fenway Park to open for media, the crisp air of Boston felt different. A whole city was anticipating what was to come tomorrow. The Red Sox have made it to the World Series for the fourth time this century, and it was time to celebrate on Monday night.
Stoneham runs away from Watertown
The Watertown Raiders football team fell to the Stoneham Spartans, 51-13, on a chilly Friday night at Victory Field. Stoneham’s run-heavy offense powered the Spartans to victory as they racked up six rushing touchdowns in the first half. The first place Spartans (6-0, 4-0 Middlesex League) would not be stopped by the Raiders (1-5, 0-4), who are in the midst of a five-game skid.
Watertown begins Div. 3 North defense with convincing victory
The Watertown Raiders are back in the playoffs, and they made sure everyone heard about it. Coming out onto the court in warm-up jerseys reading “#SLEEPER” — representing their low seeding in the tournament this year — the Raiders looked like anything but a quiet team as they routed the Essex Tech Hawks, 77-32, on Tuesday night in Kelly Gymnasium in the first game of the Division 3 North playoffs.
