2,500 Too Many: A Call to End Male Suicide in Australia
2,500 Too Many: A Call to End Male Suicide in Australia This past Thursday, a sea of shoes was placed on the lawns of The Domain, Sydney (pictured above). Thousands of empty boots, sneakers, and shoes. Each representing a life lost, a family impacted, and a call for action on male suicide. Watch Dads4Kids' short documentary to find out more. The visual representation of the male loss of life is shocking, and it truly is an urgent national crisis.
Day 20: A Faith Awakening
Day 20: A Faith Awakening To pray prayers of faith, knowing that without faith it is impossible to please God. "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation...
WA Euthanasia Deaths Surge 243%, Prompting Calls for Inquiry
WA Euthanasia Deaths Surge 243%, Prompting Calls for Inquiry Western Australia's euthanasia deaths have surged, prompting calls for an urgent inquiry amid concerns about doctor shopping, waived safeguards, limited palliative care and proposed legal expansion. Calls have been made for an inquiry into Western Australia's 'assisted dying' laws after the state has seen a 243% increase in cases of euthanasia over a four-year period.
Dads Get Amongst It
Dads Get Amongst It Loving, engaged fathers contribute a unique blend of fun, protective, and practical problem-solving qualities to their children's development. This constructive father influence shapes growth and resilience for children. The science backs it up, and this positive dad dynamic is on full display every year at our fantastic Dads4Kids Fun Camp, taking place next weekend 23-24 October 2026 on the South Coast of NSW. Watch the video below to find out more.
Living Courageously for a Better Life
Living Courageously for a Better Life Let's face it, life is risky. Nothing in our lives, apart from death and taxes, as Benjamin Franklin famously wrote, is completely guaranteed or predictable. Financial situations change, our health can break down, and accidents happen more often than we like. Sometimes multiple catastrophes can happen all at once! As the ancient Greeks philosophised, the only constant in life is change. So, what are we to do about it?

28 September 2026 3.4 MINS Considered by many as the greatest TV miniseries of all time, HBO’s powerful World War II drama Band of Brothers was released 25 years ago this month. Created by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, the 10-part show is based on the 1992 bestselling book by historian Stephen E. Ambrose. The masterfully made miniseries depicts the real-life journey of Easy Company, a well-trained unit in the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division.

21 September 2026 3.2 MINS My heart is overflowing with gratitude. Our recent Men’s Summit at Stanwell Tops, NSW, in late August was an incredible weekend. Something special happens when men step out of their everyday lives for a few days, spend time together and encourage one another. It’s a challenge to summarise the weekend just in words, so I’ve included some great images below from my friend David West (pictures help tell the story).

7 September 2026 3.9 MINS A powerful Men’s Summit, a heartfelt Father’s Day reflection, and one father’s remarkable story remind us why being present matters for generations. What an incredible Men’s Summit we had at The Tops Conference Centre last weekend. Men travelled from all over Australia to be there (shout out to Ps Brendan Edwards and all the fellas from Mary Valley in Southeast Queensland who travelled down by bus – check out their fantastic video here).

31 August 2026 2 MINS This weekend, my father (Dads4Kids cofounder Warwick Marsh) and I are at Stanwell Tops, just south of Sydney, for our annual Men’s Summit. It’s shaping up to be an amazing weekend of men encouraging one another, and I’ll report more in the coming weeks. If you were unable to join us this year, the Summit is on again next year, 13–15 August 2027, at The Tops.

24 August 2026 3.5 MINS It was an honour to join Dads4Kids’ friend Rev. Ian Barnett and Hope 103.2 FM Sydney presenter Ben McEachen recently on their excellent podcast Grandparenthood. Ian hosts the fantastic, annual National Grandparent Conference (more on that shortly), which Dads4Kids has supported since 2017. You can listen to our 30-minute Grandparenthood conversation below.

10 August 2026 3.4 MINS Week before last, I wrote about The Forge, which is a beautiful coincidence because just last week, Dads4Kids’ friend Andrew Gray (who’s also speaking at our upcoming Men’s Summit) launched an exciting new program called The Forge. Watch the video below to find out more. We were honoured to have Andrew speak at last year’s Summit, and he’s back again this year, along with Dr Allan Meyer, Paul ‘PJ’ Bedwell, and the one and only Warwick Marsh.

3 August 2026 2.8 MINS Joel Phillips and his seven-year-old son Miles have lit up the interwebs with their viral hit song “Eastern Rosellas”. Miles penned the catchy tune after observing the colourful parrots on a family holiday to Raymond Island in Victoria. Working with his actor and filmmaker dad, they created and shared a full band version on YouTube a few weeks back — and the rest is history.

27 July 2026 3.5 MINS A forge is compelling. As a noun, the word means a fiery furnace used to heat metals, or a workshop used by a blacksmith. Forging videos are an expansive genre on YouTube, and I’ve enjoyed watching talented metalworkers create all manner of things both on video and in person over the years. As a verb, to forge can also mean actively creating or shaping a sense of purpose and significance in life through deliberate effort, reflection, and action.

20 July 2026 3 MINS It’s been said women have relationships face to face while men have relationships shoulder to shoulder. As a husband, father of five daughters, and CEO whose work is encouraging men to be the best they can be, I couldn’t agree more. The truth is men and women are wonderfully distinct in so many ways.

6 July 2026 2.7 MINS It was a bracing, mid-June evening in beautiful Bega on the Sapphire Coast of NSW, Australia. Blokes from the Bega Valley and surrounding areas, the famous home of Bega Cheese, gathered at Grace Shed for a night of great food and ‘doing life’ together. Each month on a Thursday night Craig Hayman, John Wearne, and a dedicated team host Bega Shed Happens, an evening where space is created for blokes to get real and talk about the issues of life.

29 June 2026 3.4 MINS My deepest gratitude to those who have donated to Dads4Kids this end of financial year. As I wrote in last week’s letter, one of my great joys is meeting and engaging with people who have a heart for dads. Another of my great joys is hearing from the wonderful community of people across Australia, and other parts of the world, who believe in the work of Dads4Kids.

22 June 2026 3.4 MINS Turning hearts of dads to their children, and the hearts of the children to their dads, is at the core of what Dads4Kids is all about. I’m so thankful for Dads4Kids supporters. One of my great joys is meeting and engaging with people who have a heart for dads. They inspire me and are a great encouragement in my role as CEO of Dads4Kids, working to help fathers be the best they can be for their children. One such supporter is Kyri Comino.

15 June 2026 1.8 MINS Crawford Dagger is a brave man and dear friend of Dads4Kids. Pictured above with my father Warwick at last year’s Men’s Leadership Summit in a moving moment of brotherhood, Crawford is someone you wouldn’t want to pick a fight with. After addiction almost destroyed his life, time spent locked up in prison, and the loss of his children, Crawford thought his story was over. Then a powerful decision to change, and the unwavering support of Dads4Kids, helped him to rebuild.

8 June 2026 2.7 MINS Ten months ago, I was honoured to take on the role of leading Dads4Kids as CEO. It’s been challenging at times, but what an absolute joy to be at the helm of an amazing harm prevention charity committed to helping dads be the best they can be for their children. So why does Dads4Kids exist? Watch the video below to find out, or read on below. Since 2002, Dads4Kids has worked tirelessly to turn the tide of fatherlessness, which has been shown to cause significant social harms.

1 June 2026 3.6 MINS Two different Dads4Kids’ friends recently drew my attention to a fantastic initiative out of the UK called Pints and Ponytails. Started by Matthew Carter and Lawrence Price, Pints and Ponytails events offer fathers a relaxed, low-pressure space where they can learn how to style their daughters’ hair while bonding and sharing parenting experiences.

18 May 2026 3.2 MINS It should be no secret that boys and men across the world are struggling. According to the research, boys are 50% more likely than girls to fail to meet proficiency standards in reading. Boys are more likely than girls to be the victims of violent crime. Sadly, boys are 5 times more likely to end up in juvenile detention than girls, and 85% of boys detained by authorities grew up without a father figure in their lives.

11 May 2026 3.2 MINS I’m so thankful for my Mum, the wonderful Alison Marsh, who also happens to be the cofounder of Dads4Kids. She’s an amazing mother of five, wife to the equally wonderful Warwick, and devoted grandmother to a growing gaggle of grandchildren. Dads4Kids is for dads, but we’re also for mums. It should be self-evident, but in today’s world with so much noise and a seeming shortage of common sense, especially in the West, it’s worth repeating: it takes a mother to make a father.

4 May 2026 3.1 MINS It seems like only yesterday that my wife Jodi and I tentatively left Wollongong Hospital with our twin baby girls. The firstborns for both sides of the family, our beloved daughters Trinity and Eva were (and still are) a wonderful addition to the Marsh and Plain clans. The years since have been filled with delight, pure joy, a little angst here and there, and plenty of hard yet rewarding work.

20 April 2026 3.1 MINS Rudyard Kipling’s powerful poem Recessional, composed at his home in Sussex, England, in the Northern summer of 1897, is a sobering reminder for us to learn the lessons of history. According to historical accounts, Kipling was unhappy with his first draft and threw it in the bin. His wife, Caroline, rescued it and insisted he finish it. Almost 130 years later, the poem is as potent as when it was written.

13 April 2026 3.3 MINS Arrested Development (AD) is an American hip-hop group formed in the late 1980s by rapper/producer Speech and turntablist Headliner. My brothers and I used to borrow their breakout 1992 debut album 3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life Of… from Wollongong Music Library (yep, those were a thing back in the day). Their music was a great introduction to boom bap hip-hop for me, an appreciation which continues to this day.

6 April 2026 3.4 MINS I’m thankful my childhood was pre-internet. Call me old-fashioned, but the 1980s and early 1990s were just different compared to today. Life seemed simpler back then, and it’s not just me – there are countless Reddit threads on the subject. A comment by KashiofWavecrest on one such post reminiscing about the ’90s sums up today’s sorry situation: “There wasn’t a tiny handheld device of constant misery able to be accessed 24/7.” Sad but true.

23 March 2026 3.1 MINS I can categorically say American hip-hop group Salt-N-Pepa were never my jam. I’m more of an alternative rock kind of guy, but during my younger years, I do remember some juvenile friends and me snickering along to Salt-N-Pepa’s 1991 hit Let’s Talk About Sex. Reading the lyrics now as a 45-year-old married man with five daughters, they’re surprisingly straightforward.

16 March 2026 2.7 MINS The Kendrick Brothers’ 2021 documentary Show Me The Father is well worth watching. Directed by Rick Altizer, it beautifully weaves together a series of stories highlighting the importance of fatherhood. I remember seeing the trailer in late 2021 and thinking ‘I should watch that’, but it wasn’t until I became aware of Altizer’s latest project, He Calls Me Daughter, that I got around to it. Show Me The Father’s description reads: Everyone has a unique father story.
Truth Cures - The Daily Declaration
9 March 2026 3.5 MINS ‘Veritas curat’ is a Latin phrase that translates to ‘truth cures’, or ‘truth heals’. Latin served as the primary language for administration, trade, and the military during the height of the Roman Empire (1st century BC to 2nd century AD). It was and continues to be influential, especially in the fields of law, medicine, theology, and within academia. The concept of truth curing or healing comes from another Latin phrase, ‘veritas vos liberabit’.
The Future Is Everyone
2 March 2026 2.5 MINS International Men’s Day 2026 champions “The Future Is Everyone,” calling men and women to reject division, restore complementarity, and rebuild strong families for the flourishing of society. As Dads4Kids cofounder, my father Warwick Marsh, announced last week, the theme for this year’s International Men’s Day (19 November 2026) is The Future Is Everyone.
