Nick Judd’s Biography

Nick Judd has been writing and researching politics, technology, media, and their intersection for more than 10 years.

Nick uses a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods, including computational analysis of administrative data, classical and Bayesian statistics, semi-structured interviews, and archival research.

Nick maintains a small suite of open-source software projects for researchers and journalists to acquire and clean government data sets.

Nick's list of prior affiliations includes Pew Research Center, The Sunlight Foundation, and Personal Democracy Media, where he was managing editor of the award-winning techPresident news website.

Nick earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from The University of Chicago.

As a local journalist, Nick won awards for his breaking news coverage from the New Jersey Newspaper Association, New York Press Association, and the Suburban Newspapers of America.

His most widely read story, about a squirrel that made a car explode, earned a lot of play, including a short spot on MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann. It has been all downhill from there.
