Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

A full-time intern reporter at The Jersey Journal in Jersey City, NJ.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes -- My mother had two of them. I did some of my first writing on them when I was a child.

How is social media changing news?

Social media speeds up the pace of news and makes it easier for any outlet -- or person -- to get attention.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Ben Caxton from "Stranger in a Strange Land."

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter.

Why did you become a journalist?

Became one to write and have adventures. I'm still a journalist for the privilege of finding answers to some of the toughest questions.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I'm proud to have led team coverage of technology in the 2012 presidential campaign at techPresident, where we were consistently first.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Always be out getting an in-person interview, on the phone with a source, or at least trading emails and GChat. Always be getting quotes.
