Reading rules!
Reading has been one of the great pleasures of my life. It has taken me to places I've never visited, introduced me to people I would otherwise avoid, and allowed me to witness events that happened centuries before or after I was born. All without leaving my favourite chair. And it's remarkably cheap. For the price of a paperback, you can acquire the accumulated wisdom of someone who has spent 30 years studying a subject.
Kiama Mayor says council has a bright future, overcoming ‘financial doldrums’
Kiama Municipal Council has been in the financial doldrums, but after nearly three years, we can reset our sails and set course for a better financial future. Now is the time (to extend the nautical metaphor!) to look at the charts and reimagine our council’s future. Having made money out of divestment, now is the time to make more than just money out of reinvestment.
Third cancer diagnosis prompts Mayor to reflect on values and priorities
With the change of season, comes a change of perspective. I suppose I have suffered the hard knocks of life, like we all have. I’ve pulled through OK, with a few scars to show, but given as good as I got. But I never thought about my own mortality at all really, until I was diagnosed with cancer. Again. For the third time. Before my recent diagnosis, I had the constant illusion of boundless time.
Kiama Mayor says Blue Haven sale will benefit residents and community
This week Kiama Council announced a momentous step in the process of divesting Blue Haven Bonaira. We have begun the sales process by calling for expressions of interest (EOI) from organisations that would like to put in a tender for the purchase of Blue Haven Bonaira. All parties will need to provide evidence within the criteria stipulated, that they qualify to be considered.
Gas-Phase Optical Detection of 3-Ethynylcyclopentenyl: A Resonance-Stabilized C7H7 Radical with an Embedded 1-Vinylpropargyl Chromophore
The 3-ethynylcyclopentenyl radical (3ecpr) has been identified as the carrier of an electronic spectrum with origin at 21792 cm–1 using resonant ionization and laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopies. The radical was first detected in a toluene discharge and is most efficiently produced from 1,6-heptadiyne.
What do you want in our neighborhood?
Our 4th year of Participatory Budgeting (PBNYC) is underway! The PBNYC process gives New Yorkers the power to decide how to spend tax dollars in our neighborhoods. Over the past three years, thousands of you have given your ideas, researched needs, developed proposals, and come out to vote. Based on your votes, we’ve funded 22 great projects throughout the 39th Council district — from libraries to schools. This year, I am increasing my commitment from $1 million dollars to $1.5 million dollars.
