NEWS I was going to announce the launch of my debut collected works, TALES OF THE MACABRE, VOL. 1 being released today, but I am holding off until next week when I can do a full launch and the book will be discounted to $0.99. I was hoping to do a full launch this week, but didn’t want to release it at full price and then, a week later, drop it to $0.99 so have delayed the launch by a week. Admin, my eternal enemy. AUGUSTIN has released a wonderfully cosmic, creeping horror short story.

NEWS I went with the title SHADOW OF THE WOLF, but the story fared poorly with beta readers. Good title, good cover, terrible story. So it gets archived. It was fun to write, though. I hope that I’ll be able to fix it up one day. I finished EIGHTEEN MINUTES. It ended up being TWELVE MINUTES as the story needed to be tighter. It is a dark time in the world when the inspiration for horror stories comes from BBC News.

NEWS Another good writing week! I need a better title, though. THE RELUCTANT CRUSADER features Angelus, a devout templar knight whose determination to do good leads to dark repercussions. Oh, and his poor squire. Hmmmm? SHADOW OF THE WOLF? Maybe. Sounds more spicy. I love spicy food. Bit of a tangent, but if you like chicken wings, then let me know your favourite recipe. TALES OF THE MACABRE, VOL. 1 is getting good feedback at the moment.
Trev Rides Forth by Newton Webb
13th March, 2023, Camden, London Iggy shuffled around the small, dimly lit store. His arthritic hands moved across the rows of shelves, adjusting the vinyl records and CDs to the pounding sound of heavy metal music. The store was empty. In a world containing Spotify and that fruit phone, there was little interest in his archaic memorabilia. What precious little wall space wasn’t covered with shelves was papered with posters of heavy metal bands from the 70s and 80s.

NEWS A successful writing week! I am so happy. For the last two months, I have not been happy with my stories. I have added a few to my binder, but nothing that I wrote was publishable. However, last week the dam burst and I wrote TREV RIDES FORTH and some grim dark that I’m happy with :D. So I’m chuffed that I’ve bounced back from my EARTH MOTHER slump. As a result, whilst I really like THE BLACK WIDOW, I can’t wait to share TREV’s tale with you.

You get a free copy of the novel in exchange for a gentleman’s agreement to leave a review (good or bad) on either Amazon or Goodreads. I want to apologise to RYAN BUSH. Last week, I accidentally, in a copy and paste error, used V. L. AUGUSTIN’s blurb for his excellent short story, A TIME BETWEEN SPACES.

NEWS NESTOR LYNCH and TALES OF THE MACABRE, VOL. 1 are available for pre-order. Which means launch parties, ARCs and all kinds of administrative mischief :D. I’ve introduced a couple of talented writers from our writing group, namely A E DEAKIN and V L AUGUSTIN. Today I’d like to introduce RYAN BUSH. THE EARTH MOTHER (formerly THE HERETICAL BIRTH) has been dropped in the second draft.
The Wine Cellar by Newton Webb
NEWS My friend and fellow writer V. L. Augustin has released a new website where she is writing a short story a day (boggles the mind!). She has been doing this for two weeks. I have read the first five which are brilliant! I am on catchup with the rest. Hope for Tomorrow - A great setting that I hope this ends up being a prologue for. I would love to see a series set in this universe! Better the Devil - Cozy horror at its finest.

The Enigmatic Skeleton by Newton Webb
Museum curator Jarvis Collins stood at the front of the room, beaming with pride as he surveyed his assembled guests. “Welcome to my collection of Anglo-Saxon antiquities and skeletons,” he said, gesturing broadly at the array of items on display. “We dedicate this room to the era when England was under the control of Germanic invaders. They ruled the country for several centuries.

NEWS I attempted the Hot Ones challenge at home with ten hot sauces of escalating potency. Sadly, however, despite advertising Scorpion chilli peppers, they were all watered down so much that neither Ed nor I achieved more than a mild blush. Eating my body weight in nuggets, however, was excellent. Thank for everyone who bought THE BALLAD OF BARNACLE BILL. If you could spend a second to leave a review on Goodreads or Amazon, I’d really appreciate it.

Spotlight on Dame Daphne du Maurier
Daphne du Maurier has long been an inspiration for me. When I was home and had access to the Webb family library, I could reacquaint myself with her work. Born in London in 1907, she was the daughter of an actress and actor-manager. She was also the cousin of the Llewelyn Davies boys, who served as J. M.

Best Horror Movies of 2022
Barbarian: This movie absolutely kept surprising me. Acts one, two and three could be completely separate episodes, each with their own plot arc. I really enjoyed it. You never know what to expect. Day Shift A classic action horror in the style of From Dusk Till Dawn and Dawn of the Dead. Shut your brain off, open mouth, insert popcorn. It’s a fun little shooter with comedy elements. Men Great Yarmouth is exactly the same experience. I am pretty sure we experience the same holiday every year.

The Iron Door by Newton Webb
Giovanni Comnenus had never seen such a magnitude of people before. Even in Rome, he’d never witnessed such a tight press, with all the sounds and scents that accompanied them. His eyes narrowed and he pushed past, suppressing the tension simmering within him. Mind on the mission. As he shouldered past merchants trying to hawk religious icons and relics of dubious authenticity, he saw the Domus Aurea, the Great Church of Antioch, and quickened his pace.
The Coconut Killer by Newton Webb
The Coconut Club was the social highlight of the school. It was housed in a squat, cement building which had faded, over the years, to a muted shade of blue. Each Friday, the local school hosted a youth club for the kids, fizzy drinks for a pound and a selection of free biscuits made by the local Women’s Institute. Sam pushed open the toilet doors, ignoring the missing persons poster. The toilet door closed behind him, deadening the sound of the tinny pop music.
