A British farm has urged visitors to stop posing naked for photographs in its field of sunflowers. The owners of Stoke Fruit Farm on Hayling Island, off England’s south coast, issued the unusual request on social media, having noticed a growing number of visitors stripping naked to pose for pictures among the blooms.
Would home-confinement for breaking a judge's order have a benefit in Trump's mind?
The reason I ask is because he seems to be provoking judges to revoke his bail, and he probably believes he will not be sent to jail. Why would he think being placed on home-confinement might be beneficial? 1.) I would play major role in his martyrdom narrative. His Christ -complex ("I'm being indicted instead of you" migth relish it, even court it. 2.) Most importantly it will give his rabid supporters an occasion to riot, a time and a place.
Court tosses Jan. 6 sentence in ruling that could impact other low-level Capitol riot cases

US judge won't block Florida law barring Chinese citizens from owning homes
Thu Aug 17, 2023, 05:12 PM Source: Reuters Aug 17 (Reuters) - A U.S. judge in Florida on Thursday declined to block the state's law barring citizens of China and other "countries of concern" from owning homes or land in the state. U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor in Tallahassee, Florida, said that because the ban is based on citizenship and not race or national origin, it likely does not violate the U.S. Constitution or a law banning housing discrimination.

Will he be quadrice indicted soon?
Fri Aug 11, 2023, 02:13 PM Thrice indicted has such a nice ring to it. It would be nice to continue the pattern. But it looks like there is no actual word for 'four times'. According to the Oxford Dictionary, nothing comes after thrice. However, several terms have popped up claiming to be the continuation of the sequence. Some of these include quince, frice, fourice, quarce, and quadrice all of which have been claimed to mean four times. I suggest quadrice.

Yesterday's verdict against Donald Trump sets a marker
Response to ashredux (Original post) Wed May 10, 2023, 07:46 AM 2. You may have a point there. There is a PATTERN here. Committing crimes, then LYING about NOT doing it despite the evidence gathered. Were it not for the Jan 6th Committee findings and hearings, the DOJ would have nothing to go on.

Fess up: Did you really believe that tRump ever be indicted?
The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. There was no data to support the scenario that Trump would ever have any consequences. Facts: -No US president has been held accountable for his crimes. -Trump has never been held accountable for his crimes. -There is a separate justice system for the rich and powerful. And it should be said that an indictment is a long way from trial, conviction and sentencing. Plenty of time for the good old boy network to kick it.

Response to Drum (Original post) Fri Feb 17, 2023, 11:42 AM 10. Translation: We don't have the power to do it now. Santos competed as a drag queen in Brazil in 2008, report says, further adding to his wild backstory
You are mistaking a feature for a flaw. Yes, in fascist authoritarian systems, the leadership class routinely and flagrantly "violates" the norms they profess to others. That's actually part of the psychological operating method of cults and other authoritarian systems. Live a simple life, untroubled by attachments to material possessions, while I greet you from my Rolls.... There is a mind trap among decent people that, at some point, "the hypocrisy" will bring them down. No, no, no, no, no...

I'm an Arizona Dem who has known Sinema for decades.
My family actually has a long, difficult history with her. I won't tell the full story, as it involves the most intimate details of other family member's lives. Suffice it to say, she has been an agent of chaos and destruction in people's lives going back to her college years. The weirdest part of it all, is that she was so hardcore liberal/progressive. She refused to use self-checkouts in grocery stores, even if not doing so would make her late to an event or appointment.
Trump Will Beat DeSantis By A Wide Margin In 2024, New Poll Shows
Response to speak easy (Original post) Wed Nov 23, 2022, 12:22 AM 7. ehhh at this point it's all name recognition. We at DU--and most of us do--realize that most Americans don't take politics very seriously. Nowhere near how we do. Right before Nov. 8, NPR did some interviewing of citizens (independents, i think) about their candidate selection. Most of them barely knew who was running. So yeah, even if polling was reliable, this is irrelevant for that reason.
This is a disaster for the Republicans
Response to Dopers_Greed (Reply #42) Wed Nov 9, 2022, 02:35 AM 45. Not very good. It would probably wipe out a bunch of classified docs that still haven't been turned over. And wipe out a bunch of other evidence of criminal activity as well. Still, it would be wonderful karma. I can just imagine TFG going at a National Weather Service warning cone map with a large pink eraser trying to alter the hurricane path. Reply to this post Back to top Alert abuse Link here Permalink

I'm also sad for a fellow human that reportedly suffered from mental health problems, where she likely self-medicated and developed substance abuse problems.

Watching @PeteButtigieg refuse to step into traps laid for him by standard shallow media
Response to In It to Win It (Original post) Sun Jul 3, 2022, 11:27 AM 7. Boom! Buttigieg gives the perfect answer to the question of late-term abortions without hesitation of hiccup. This is the boogie-man question that gets thrown out there with every debate. It's meant to stop the conversations cold. Buttigieg provides the template, clearly, directly that yes, even the tragedy and heartache of a late-term abortion rests with the mother, family and physician.

Response to IronLionZion (Reply #11) Fri Jun 24, 2022, 05:33 PM 24. There actually isn't anyone to stop them unless Democrats win a majority in Congress AND the Democrats who win are willing to actually do something about the rights and the SC. If Democrats win his fall, the first step I would like to see in January 2023 is passage of a law protecting reproductive rights for all women in all statesóno state laws allowed to make it difficult for women to get an abortion.

Response to dflprincess (Reply #33) Fri Jun 10, 2022, 03:31 AM 39. I'm glad I collected at 66, and not at 70. I didn't need the money, so I invested it. My spreadsheet analysis is that I will have a higher net worth at death this way than if I had started collecting at 70 (even given that my SS benefit would be 8% higher per year of delay), out to well beyond my expected longevity (there are longevity calculators that even allow one to put in some health information).
