What Exactly Is Uncompressed Pcm Audio?
Discussion in 'Blu-ray & DVD Players & Recorders' started by JEFF62, May 21, 2008. Just recently bought a PS3 and so fairly new to Blu Ray. Can someone explain what Uncompressed PCM audio is. I have a home cinema system so i use 5.1 DD. But I keep seeing this option in Blu Ray menus for 5.1 uncompressed PCM audio. What exctly is it and what do you need to listen to it? I selected it once and got no sound. Just wondering what the difference is between this and 5.1 DD.

Now I hear from Naim Audio that I should not put any hifi equipment on top of each other? Where is the logic here? I can understand that an amplifier must have air, and therefore you should not put anything on top of an amplifier, but what is problem in placing an amplifier on top of a CD player? Any thoughts about this?

Which headphones?

The source would be an Arcam DV88 and I would obviously need closed type. I have seen that Richer Sounds have got a few good deals on Seinhauser's. Are they the best around? I really dont want to spend more than £50 unless its worth spending the extra. Any recommendations?
Best iPod for Wadia Transport i170

I've just bought Wadia Transport i170 and PS Digital Link III DAC to be used as "high end" digital front-end grin. For those of you who don't know, i170 extracts digital data out of the iPod and sends it to DAC to be decoded. DAC sends analog signal to the pre-amp, etc. My plan was to use iPod Gen 5 (80 GB video).
Energy saving GU10's
My new house used to have 4 x 50W GU10 downlighters in the kitchen, about 2 years ago i replaced them with low energy GU10's. Not thinking at the time that they're probably not all made equal i just bought a set of 5 off ebay for £24.
Blade Runner - HD DVD / BluRay
Warner have confirmed that Blade Runner will be released as a five disc special edition on HD DVD and BluRay. No details of release dates yet but Warner has confirmed that it will include a "recut 'Essential 25th Anniversary Edition' featuring both newly-shot and never-before-seen restored footage".

Hi guys. I got 2 BR movies, and the centre disc clips are snapped off, and I am after some PROPER blu ray replacement cases.

Thank you for contacting the Helpdesk. The DAC20 will make for better CD playback as long as the digital connections on the DVD player have been carefully implemented. Poorly implemented products will lead to a harsh sound no matter what equipment is connected. The importance of good digital cables can't be underestimated either, as a badly implemented cable will introduce RF interference and again lead to poor quality audio.
