Leaky Waveguide Biosensors for Label-free Measurement of Human Serum Albumin Early diagnosis of diseases such as kidney disease relies on the successful measurement of albumin concentration in urine. We report label-free detection of human serum albumin (HSA) using a leaky waveguide (LW) optical biosensor.

Acoustic Levitation and Manipulation of Columns of Droplets with Integrated Optical Detection for Parallelisation of Reactions
Acoustic Levitation and Manipulation of Columns of Droplets with Integrated Optical Detection for Parallelisation of Reactions The most common methodology for performing multiple chemical and biological reactions in parallel is to use microtitre plates with either manual or robotic dispensing of reactants and wash solutions.
An investigative study into an oscillatory reaction in acoustically levitated droplets
An investigative study into an oscillatory reaction in acoustically levitated droplets† For the first time we have studied an oscillatory chemical reaction (the well-known Belousov–Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction) in acoustically levitated droplets. Acoustically levitated droplets allow wall-less reaction studies, reduce consumption of sample/reagents, offer high throughput measurements, and enable environmentally friendly chemistry by significantly reducing plastic waste.

Letter: The case for developing metropolitan London’s golf courses
Andrew Adonis – peer of the realm, arch remainer, former transport secretary, would-be Labour MP for Vauxhall – has been to Croydon. More than that he’s been thinking about Croydon, which is always dangerous. Here’s what he’s been thinking: Some background, in the unlikely event you’ve landed on this story without knowing what “zone 4” means. Transport for London divides its tube and rail network into concentric fare zones.
A Feasibility Study of a Leaky Waveguide Aptasensor for Thrombin
A Feasibility Study of a Leaky Waveguide Aptasensor for Thrombin This proof-of-principle study demonstrates the feasibility of a leaky waveguide (LW) aptasensor, where aptamers were immobilised in a mesoporous chitosan waveguiding film, for the detection of thrombin. This work has demonstrated that aptamers immobilised in hydrogels retain their affinity and selectivity towards their target and thus can be used as bioreceptors.
Broadband Absorption Spectroscopy for Rapid pH Measurement in Small Volumes Using an Integrated Porous Waveguide
Broadband absorption spectroscopy integrated with microfluidics is widely used to measure the pH of samples available in small volumes. Single pass absorption spectroscopy, however, suffers from poor minimum detectable absorption coefficient because the optical pathlength is determined by the physical dimensions of microchannels. As a result, either large amounts of indicator dyes are added or instrumentally complex techniques are used to determine sample pH.
