Development and validation of the serious game “BebêXP”: a food and nutritional education tool for children
español Introducción: El juego puede ser una gran estrategia para utilizar como herramienta de educación alimentaria y nutricional para padres de niños menores de dos años, ya que es capaz de transmitir conocimientos de forma atractiva y aplicable y en diferentes contextos.
Another Victorian detective beats Sherlock Holmes at his own game
If you're looking for a brand-new mystery with a Sherlock Holmes vibe, you are - as the British heroes of two new books might say - spoiled for choices. "Sherlock Holmes and the Real Thing" is the latest from Nicholas Meyer, who has been writing his series of (supposedly) newly unearthed mysteries featuring the great detective since the 1970s, when "The Seven-Per-Cent Solution" was a bestseller. His "Real Thing" takes place in the 1890s.
Sherlock Holmes and the Real Thing: A Case History Recorded by John H. Watson, M.D.
It is no secret that my all-time favorite fictional character is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. However, as a Holmesian, it is sometimes difficult to navigate all of the options available in the age of public domain. There are literally thousands of novels, short stories, films, TV shows and streaming series about Holmes, and not all of them are great. This is not the case with author and filmmaker Nicholas Meyer.
5 new must-reads
An old literary friend — Sherlock Holmes — is back this month. Perhaps you’d like him to join you in an air-conditioned setting? Holmes returns to solving cases in Nicholas Meyer’s “Sherlock Holmes and the Real Thing,” the latest in his series of supposedly newly discovered adventures of the great detective. But if you’re looking for something a little less sunny to balance the blazing days, how about a novel about a possible cannibal?

Sherlock Holmes and the Real Thing
If Meyer’s sterling seventh Holmes pastiche (after Sherlock Holmes and the Telegram from Hell) is, as he suggests in the acknowledgments, his last, he ends on a high note, serving up his best revamp of the Conan Doyle canon in years. Lady Glendenning, owner of many London properties, is referred to Baker Street by Scotland Yard after her usually reliable tenant, portrait artist Rupert Milestone, vanishes with three months of unpaid rent to his name.
Nightshade
Michael Connelly. Little, Brown, $30 (400p) ISBN 978-0-316-58848-5 In this winning series launch, L.A. noir maestro Connelly (the Harry Bosch series) proves small-town policing can be just as high stakes as crime solving in the big city. L.A. County sheriff’s detective Stilwell has been transferred to Santa Catalina Island after running afoul of higher-ups.
Sherlock Holmes and the Telegram from Hell: A World War I Adventure
In the era of public domain, there are literally thousands of titles purporting to be Sherlock Holmes stories. However, one of the first to boldly step into the shoes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was Nicholas Meyer, whose first Holmes novel, THE SEVEN-PER-CENT SOLUTION, read like it could have been penned by Doyle himself. His latest effort, SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE TELEGRAM FROM HELL, feels very different as it features an aging Holmes and Watson in the waning days of World War I.
Nicholas Meyer on the Great Escape of Art (and the Art of Detective Fiction)
Leo Tolstoy, author of my favorite novel, War and Peace, said that the purpose of art is to teach us to love life, an observation that has pleased me since I first read it. But on reflection, I think it fair to say there are other things that art can do in relation to life; it can change the way we see life; it can teach us to endure or perhaps enable us to escape life. For a time, anyway.
The Informant - Film (1997)
TRAMA THE INFORMANT Irlanda del Nord.
Review: 'The Return of the Pharaoh,' by Nicholas Meyer
The game's afoot again in "Pharaoh," Nicholas Meyer's fourth Sherlock Holmes novel, purportedly "from the reminisces of John H. Watson, M.D." Reflecting Meyer's work as a screenwriter ("Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan"), "Pharaoh" moves like a runaway train and, in fact, a runaway train is where the climax occurs. Dr. Watson and Holmes both find themselves in Egypt, tracking down a nobleman who disappeared while attempting to plunder ancient artifacts.
Conan Doyle’s Children, Or, Thoughts on the Competition
In 1974 when I published The Seven-Per-Cent Solution, I had two distinct advantages: though there had been occasional Holmes pastiches before, I essentially had a clear field, my only real competition being Doyle himself, and… I had the novelty of a story in which Holmes encounters and joins forces with Sigmund Freud. As much as any innate quality the book possessed, I believe it was its novelty that startled and delighted. No more.
The Return of the Pharaoh
Review by Diane H, Reviewer Last updated on 17 Nov 2021 My Recommendation Dr. Watson brings his second wife, Juliet, to Egypt to cure her tb. He runs into Sherlock, who is looking for a missing nobleman. They join forces. In Return of the Pharoah, the game is once again afoot! This author does the best job of the many writers trying to replicate Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The prose reads exactly like the original novels.
Mystery Scene
Meyer, whose bestselling 1974 pastiche, The Seven-Per-Cent Solution, prompted a literary smorgasbord of fresh, if not always picante, Sherlock Holmes tales, lifts the cloche on another of Dr. Watson’s lost journals. Like its precedents—Seven-Per-Cent, The West End Horror (1976) and The Canary Trainer (1993)—Peculiar combines fiction with genuine history and stylish wit and charm with steadfast deduction.
The Adventure of the Peculiar Protocols
Review by Diane H, Reviewer Last updated on 18 Oct 2019 My Recommendation The game is afoot in the excellent Sherlock Holmes tale of spies and revolution, the Adventures of the Peculiar Protocols. Sherlock Holmes’ brother Mycroft enlists Holmes’ help with a mysterious French manuscript. The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion is ostensibly a book recording a conference of Jews describing their plan of world takeover. However, Holmes believes it is a fraud.
