Last October, my wife Katie and I received the best news we could ask for: Katie was pregnant. The next nine months were filled with hope, joy, anxiety, and basically every emotion you can imagine at one point or another. It was something we really wanted and it was finally at our finger tips. Turns out nine months is a long time! Our daughter Claire was born this July. She’s been an absolute blessing.
Abstract Reference genomes are foundational to modern genomics. Our growing understanding of genome structure leads to continual improvements in reference genomes and new genome "builds" with incompatible coordinate systems. We quantified the impact of genome build on germline and somatic variant calling by analyzing tumour-normal whole-genome pairs against the two most widely used human genome builds.
