Task

| Poem-a-Day
There’s a poem I tried to write about bathing you the last day you were alive. On one of our drives home: I want to die without shame. You didn’t elaborate. I described standing across from a stranger paid to do this work, her presence anchoring me in the task with you between us. From this distance I can use the word task. Your pain the astrologer said A gift for others A mixing bowl filled with warm water we dipped washcloths into before wringing them out rested between your legs.

38. Shedding the Old

Such as the lobster cracking loose from its exoskeleton after moons of moulting, or the viper that squeezes out of the skin of its remembrance, this oracle invites you to rewild yourself, to unbox, detox, and de- clutter your blood. Break free from the mold you made for yourself, for the animal in you that craves routines like sugar, addicted to the stress of your comforts. Sling your arm around the waist of your discomfort like it’s a new lover in these uncharted seas and distances untraversed.

How To Travel Alone

How To Travel Alone The same painting is hanging on all four walls of my hotel room: Ship at sea. Ship at sea. Ship at sea. Ship at sea. An empty bed won’t say I love you until its jaw falls off. The rain believes the earth exists just to give it something to fall against. What can I do from my dingy little room but close the blinds and turn up the TV? Some days I come out wrinkled like a jacket exhumed from a suitcase.

ATHENS, Ohio – The town of Athens is buzzing with people making phone calls, knocking on doors, and handing out pamphlets. Many local activists are working harder than ever as the election approaches. This particular election gives activists a difficult challenge to overcome. Only nine percent of voters wanted either Trump or Clinton as their nominee, which is expected to lead to extremely low voter turn out rates.

One Art

Find and share the perfect poems. The art of losing isn’t hard to master; so many things seem filled with the intent to be lost that their loss is no disaster. Lose something every day. Accept the fluster of lost door keys, the hour badly spent. The art of losing isn’t hard to master. Then practice losing farther, losing faster: places, and names, and where it was you meant to travel. None of these will bring disaster. I lost my mother’s watch.
