Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, and not ironically or in a kitschy way. I have used word processors too!
How is social media changing news?
It is distracting journalists and reinforcing pack journalism. Most potential sources and readers are not on Twitter all day
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
A brief email at first. If I am interested, I will let you know and we can take it from there, via the phone or other means.
Who do you wish followed you?
I have long admired Charlie Savage going back to his days at the Boston Globe. And Jane Mayer. No explanation needed.
Why did you become a journalist?
I kind of meandered into journalism starting in college, working on an alternative student newspaper
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Do original work that matters and hone your writing. Cover what is actually happening, not just what people say. File FOIAs early and often

Morning via email. Short is better. If I am interested, I will tell you know
What's the best pitch you ever got?
I am not a fan of being pitched. But if you have an official document that is not public and is newsworthy that will get my attention
