From the outside, it must have seemed like Circle of Hope, a cluster of four Anabaptist churches in greater Philadelphia, was well prepared for the unrest that followed George Floyd’s death in 2020. “Circle” (as its members called it) consisted mostly of young professionals who saw social justice as a core part of their commitment to Christianity.
Pushed Out
When Paris was chosen to host last year’s Olympic Games, one key factor was a noble promise made by the French government. Emanuel Macron’s administration claimed that instead of using the Olympics to spur private development and force out poor people—which is what usually happens in cities where the games are held—the planners would make sure the event redounded to the benefit of working-class residents.

A migrant dilemma in Denver Original
Denver was still recovering from a heavy spring storm when Maria Chavez and Adrian Rivero arrived in town. Their bus rolled in on a cloudy evening in May 2023, dropping them off near a Latino neighborhood beside Federal Boulevard.
