Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I worked as the education reporter for a daily regional paper called The York Dispatch in York, Pa.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

My mom used to have one at home that I would play on when I was 5 or 6. I'm one of those millennials who takes email for granted, though.

How is social media changing news?

It's allowing everyone to offer their immediate commentary - good or bad. It also creates a community around current events.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Specific data, reports, etc. are always helpful, as they provide the "hook" that tells me if it will interest my readers.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I use WordPress, Slack, Asana, Google+, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, and more!

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

My high school didn't have a paper, but I took the first journalism class it offered. I was also the co-EIC of the yearbook my senior year.

What's your favorite drink?

Spindrift Strawberry Lemonade during work hours, and almost any variation of a Moscow Mule during a (rare) night out.
