What was your first job as a journalist?
I was hired to write up the upcoming school lunch menu for our local newspaper. Hard hitting journalism at its finest.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I love my old typewriter and still use it from time to time. Hey, a girl's gotta write. Why let something like a power outage silence me?
How is social media changing news?
Social media has transformed the way society gets its news, making it essential for journalists to stay on top of breaking stories 24/7.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Favorite fictional journalist has to be Fletch (Chevy Chase). A master of disguise, the written word, and using the Underhill's credit card.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
I have the distinct privilege of "speaking" to readers around the globe, constantly pushing me to seek the truth and spread the word.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
#Hijacking Al-Qaeda - a hijacked hashtag - gave some great "suggestions" for new al-Qaeda operations.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I like to send/receive pitches that are short, to the point, and detailed. No fillers. No fluff.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I use a computer, laptop, smartphone, tablet, MS Office 2013, digital recorder, and my trusty collection of ink pens and spiral notebooks.
What's your favorite social network?
I'm most active on LinkedIn and Twitter.
Who do you wish followed you?
I'd love for Jared Leto to follow me. He's smart, opinionated, and oh-so-easy on the eyes.
Why did you become a journalist?
Thanks to a healthy sense of curiosity and persistence, along with a love for the written word, becoming a journalist was my destiny.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I'm proud of the work I've done to promote animal welfare, particularly that of the anti-breed discrimination movement.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't give up. It takes a while to carve out a space of your own in the world of journalism, but that time is absolutely worth it in the end.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime lightening and inspiration strikes you. There's no such thing as a "bad time" to pitch your ideas.
