How is social media changing news?
Stories are becoming shorter and shifting to video. You have to work harder to keep a reader's attention.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Okay, I really love Jane from the Bold Type (guilty pleasure alert!). She's an all around bad ass and go getter and dresses amazing to boot.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To have the honor and responsibility of truthfully sharing and telling others' stories.

Instagram, although it's shifting more and more towards Twitter.

hmm tough question. I'm a big fan of VICE, so I wish Shane Smith followed me as I'd love for him to see how his publication has influenced me
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I worked for my college newspaper actually as Editor of the Campus section and City/State reporter.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I am very proud of my investigative story on Bali's dog meat trade, which I traveled to Bali to report on.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Get to know the publication you're pitching.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Between 10am and 6pm EST, Monday through Friday.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Pitches about your solo travel adventure or quitting a job to travel are unique to you but hardly unique in the world of travel.
What's your favorite drink?
I love a good glass of red wine and pumpkin beer, which is probably the most basic answer out there, but whatever.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
A coffee shop in Astoria, Queens.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Travel journalism, for me, extends far beyond guides and destination listicles. I like to try to find the stories that matter.
