N-Terminal proteomics reveals distinct protein degradation patterns in different types of human atherosclerotic plaques
Abstract BACKGROUND: Destabilization and rupture of atherosclerotic plaques is a major cause of acute atherosclerotic cardiovascular events, including heart attack, ischemic stroke and peripheral arterial disease. Plaque destabilization is associated with extracellular matrix (ECM) modification and remodelling involving protease activity. Enzymatic cleavage generates protein fragments with new 'ends' (N-termini).
Prehospital point‐of‐care ultrasound in ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms-a retrospective cohort study
More advanced and sensitive prehospital diagnostics may support more efficient hospital care for certain types of cases where treatment decisions are time-critical. In this retrospective analysis, diagnostic ultrasound in the hands of pre-hospital critical care physicians in the field in one region was assessed with focus on aorto-iliac rupture cases.
Antiplatelet Therapy in Patients With Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Without Symptomatic Atherosclerotic Disease
Key Points Question Do patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms without symptomatic atherosclerosis benefit from antiplatelet therapy? Findings In this comparative effectiveness research study using target trial emulation methods including 6344 patients with 131 047 trial cases, limited effectiveness of antiplatelets to lower the risk of ischemic events was noted. The absolute risk differences between the treatment groups were minimal.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm - disease or a defect - Patients’ perceptions of aortic aneurysm in the presence of multimorbidity
Highlights • Patient’ illness perception and multimorbidity affects treatment adherence • Abdominal aortic aneurysm is not perceived as a disease in multimorbid patients • Cardioprotective treatment and smoking is not associated to the aneurysmatic disease • Patient perception of abdominal aortic aneurysm should be prioritized by clinicians Abstract Objectives . Abdominal aortic aneurysm is associated with substantial comorbidity and significant long-term mortality.

It is rare that patients with aortic disease, particularly those with dissection, have isolated pathology. It is equally rare that the surgical team is eager to embark on an all encompassing aortic repair in one stage, even less so in the acute setting.
