Pillay’s Nobel Deserves an Explanation
Navi Pillay, the former United Nations human rights chief who chaired the commission that accused Israel of genocide in Gaza, was awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize on October 9. Five days later, she told CNN International that the award would strengthen her ability to continue her work. The Nobel amplifies her voice. It should not place her record beyond question. The Norwegian Nobel Committee praised Pillay’s courage, integrity and contributions to international law.
England’s Antisemitism Review Is a Warning for Brazil
Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, China’s Premier Li Qiang, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and other leaders, attend the opening meeting of BRICS Summit, at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil July 6, 2025. Anger over schools finds a Jewish target
(Oct. 29, 2026 / JNS) French students protesting inadequate schools have legitimate grievances. But what grievance against an educational system is expressed by chanting threats against Jews? On Oct. 1, municipal authorities in Carpentras, in southeastern France, reported chants outside Victor-Hugo high school that included “We burned Israel!” and “Who are the Jews? We trample them!” The reported incident does not define the entire student movement.
Israel was blamed while the October 7 massacre was still underway
At 12:50 p.m. on October 7, 2023, with the Hamas attack still underway in Israel, an organizer called London’s Metropolitan Police to notify officers that a major pro-Palestinian demonstration would take place the following Saturday. The scale of the massacre was not yet known, and a side had already been chosen.
Free Palestine, but free from whom?
In 1944, Jewish activists in the United States helped establish an organization called the American League for a Free Palestine. They wanted to end British rule and achieve Hebrew national independence. “Free Palestine” was their cause, too. That history may surprise people who encounter the phrase today. It also raises a question: What happens when a slogan becomes detached from the history of the place it names?
How unverified claims acquire the authority of news
(Oct. 6, 2026 / JNS) After the attack aboard a flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Sept. 30 was thwarted by Israeli passengers, accusations that Israel had staged the incident quickly began circulating on social media. The next day, Roya News, part of a private television group in Jordan, brought those suspicions to its English-language website. The article offered no evidence of an Israeli-staged attack.
It’s not genocide, stupid
(Sept. 23, 2026 / JNS) The title of this article paraphrases the famous 1992 Bill Clinton campaign line, “It’s the economy, stupid.” The intention is the same: to return to what is essential. Genocide is not synonymous with war, destruction, civilian deaths or even war crimes. It is a crime with a specific legal definition and an exceptionally demanding requirement of intent. The word has become so ubiquitous in international coverage of Gaza that it seems to have lost that specificity.
Singing the songs he created while in captivity

Not music to Hamas ears
(Sept. 7, 2026 / JNS) Some projects are measured by what they build. Others reveal themselves through what they try to destroy. Oct. 7, 2023 was an attempt at erasure: to erase lives, homes and even the idea that Israelis might one day sing and dream again in the communities of southern Israel. That day, thousands of Hamas-led attackers crossed into Israel in an assault marked by murder, mutilation, people burned alive and sexual violence—the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.
Firsthand from Brazil: Watching the world get Israel wrong Original
(Aug. 30, 2026 / JNS) Brazil has more than 200 million people and a Jewish community of roughly 100,000. Yet much of what Brazilians read about Israel and the war in Gaza is not originally reported here. It comes from international news agencies and major foreign media outlets whose reports, headlines and framing are reproduced by Brazilian news organizations, often reaching millions of readers within hours.
Antisemitism Now Speaks in Code - and We Need to Be Aware of Those Symbols and Phrases
3D-printed images of the logos of Facebook and parent company Meta Platforms are seen on a laptop keyboard in this illustration taken on November 2, 2021. REUTERS/Dado Ruvic Since October 7, 2023, antisemitism has surged across the globe — not only through physical attacks or explicit rhetoric, but through something subtler: a coded language designed to evade detection while spreading hatred. Contemporary antisemitism rarely presents itself with the overt brutality of the past.
October 7 massacre findings puts the UN’s credibility on trial - opinion
ByNIRA BRONER WORCMANJULY 22, 2026 13:23 The international human rights system rests on a simple principle: no victim should be dismissed before the facts are established. The authority of institutions such as the United Nations depends not on military power or legal coercion, but on the confidence that allegations will be examined independently, regardless of who the victims are, who the perpetrators may be, or what political interests are at stake.

The Battle After Entebbe
I was born on July 4. For most people, the date evokes American independence. For me, it has come to carry another meaning. On July 4, 1976, while the United States celebrated its Bicentennial, the rescued hostages of Operation Entebbe landed safely back in Israel. Two nations marked freedom on the same day, each in its own way. Fifty years later, that coincidence still has something to teach us.

A New Book Reveals Perhaps the Most Important Lesson of October 7
Palestinian Hamas terrorists stand guard on the day of the handover of hostages held in Gaza since the deadly Oct. 7, 2023, attack, as part of a ceasefire and a hostages-prisoners swap deal between Hamas and Israel, in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, Feb. 22, 2025. Photo: REUTERS/Hatem Khaled As tensions between Israel, the United States, and Iran continue to reshape the Middle East, democracies once again face an old and uncomfortable question: When does prevention become legitimate?
Why Two States Were Never the Central Question
Since 1947, when the United Nations approved the Partition Plan recommending the creation of both a Jewish and an Arab state, diplomats have sought to turn that vision into reality. The Jewish leadership accepted the plan, while Arab states and Palestinian representatives rejected it. In the decades that followed, additional opportunities emerged, yet none produced a final agreement.
Why Two States Were Never the Central Question
What if the greatest obstacle to peace between Israelis and Palestinians has never been borders, but recognition? For decades, international diplomacy has treated the Israeli-Palestinian conflict primarily as a territorial dispute. The proposed solution became conventional wisdom: two peoples, two states. But what if the main obstacle to peace is not the absence of an agreed map?
Banned From Turkey for Supporting Israel’s Right to Exist: The Price of Dissent
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan speaks during a ceremony for the handover of new vehicles to the gendarmerie and police forces in Istanbul, Turkey, Nov. 28, 2025. Photo: REUTERS/Murad Sezer “Are you a Zionist?” “Yes, of course.” That was all it took. After a short street interview in Jerusalem earlier this year, a 27-year-old Turkish Muslim student named Türkü Avcı found herself at the center of a national outrage campaign. Within hours, the video had gone viral in Turkey.
The Pulitzer and the Triumph of Narrative Over Fact
The decision by the 2026 Pulitzer Prize board to honor the work of Palestinian photographer Saher Alghorra, a contributor to The New York Times, should not be viewed as routine recognition of war reporting. It is something more consequential — and more troubling. The images cited in the award, presented as documentation of starvation in Gaza, helped shape a global narrative, including in Brazil.

O preço da divergência
"Você é sionista?" "Sim, claro."

Quotation Marks That Silence Iran

Jerusalem’s Palm Sunday and the asymmetry of moral judgment - opinion
ByNIRA BRONER WORCMANAPRIL 9, 2026 15:00 Under pressure, access was restored. But the narrative had already taken hold, and far less attention was given to the context in which the decision was made. Israel is not managing routine security; it is operating under the strain of an ongoing war against an adversary that has demonstrated both intent and reach.
Tehran now faces the war it outsourced
How wars are described often determines how they are understood. In the case of the Middle East, coverage frequently begins at the moment Israel reacts. Headlines announce that “Israel strikes,” “Israel attacks,” or “Israel escalates.” Rarely do they say that Israel is responding. This choice of language is not neutral.

Azita, ynet’s voice from Tehran is dead, may it not be in vain
Azita, a young Iranian woman writing from Tehran for ynet, is not just another name on a list of thousands of victims of oppression under the Iranian dictatorship. According to a local activist, she died while protesting against the political and social conditions in her country, confronting security forces who used live ammunition and extreme violence to disperse demonstrators.
The decisive battle for Israel isn't in Gaza – it's in the world's imagination
The decisive battle for Israel today is not unfolding in Gaza's streets but across the global imagination. Hamas may have suffered severe military setbacks, yet it has accumulated something far more potent: a narrative capable of shaping international perceptions, polarizing public discourse, and fueling a new wave of antisemitism around the world. Militarily, the trajectory of the war is grim but predictable: Israel will likely succeed in dismantling much of Hamas's physical infrastructure.
Downplaying terrorism: Being complicit in moral failures
Jerusalem Post/Opinion Refusing to learn from history: The world looks away as terror is legitimized, excused - opinion Eighty years ago, the world swore it would never again allow barbarity to present itself with an air of legitimacy. Today, the same script is repeating itself. A PROTESTER holds a placard using the IDF acronym of Israel Defense Forces instead as ‘Infant Death Force’ in London last month.
