Halfway through 2026, it is worth remembering something we often hear every January during Human Trafficking Prevention Month: human trafficking is not a seasonal issue. It is a year-round reality affecting children, adults, families, and communities across Oregon. I’ve worked in anti-human trafficking efforts for nearly 20 years. We work alongside local programs and community partners that support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking.

If ever there was a doubt that sex trafficking involves both the poor and disenfranchised (often times as victims) as well as the very wealthy, today’s announcement should erase those doubts. It effects all facets of our society. The fact that Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, was charged with two counts of soliciting prostitution will be out of people’s memories at some point.
