“In 2025, the companies at the top of this ranking confirm the central role of French industry in the dynamics of innovation through patents,” says the INPI. New governance for the Cosméthèque
The Cosmétothèque will thus complement the Cosmethics program, which has already been active at the university for several years. At the start of 2026, the war in Iran poses a risk to exports to the Middle East, which had been an area of diversification for French exports (€1.5 billion in 2025, up 5.6%). For French cosmetics manufacturers, Australia is already a strategic market, accounting for nearly €250 million in exports.

This industry committee confirmed the strategic role played by the cosmetics industry in the French economy. With nearly 300,000 direct and indirect jobs, it is one of France’s major industrial pillars.
"Starting my own cosmetics business": a guide from French FEBEA
“Every day, new independent brands (”Indie brands”) are emerging in the cosmetics market. This trend reflects a booming sector, but it also brings with it numerous challenges, particularly in terms of regulatory compliance,“ says the FEBEA. Its study on “indie brands” in 2004 gave the Federation a better understanding of the ecosystem surrounding these emerging brands and enabled him to identify their specific needs. It is against this backdrop that this guide has been developed.
