As a freelancer I'm usually doing the pitching. Which generally means I get to write stories I'm interested in.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Behind a book. Or on the river paddleboarding. I've yet to take a book on the river but I may soon.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That anyone can write about science, you don't need special knowledge or contacts.
