It’s where his coaching journey began, launching a career that’s spanned two decades and several top-tier programs. Now, the Madison, Wis., native is returning to where it all started: Minnesota State Moorhead.
FILM CORNER: The Toxic Avenger is A Worthy Remake
Back in March, I published my review of the soulless remake of Disney's Snow White, and if you would of told me then that a remake so over-the-top and insane would come out later in the year to make me feel better, I probably wouldn't believe you. Months later, such an over-the-top and insane remake came out, and I loved every single second of it. This weekend, I watched the recently released remake of The Toxic Avenger.

Last Wednesday, the adult-aimed animated television show, South Park, aired its premiere episode for its 27th season after a long hiatus due to both Paramount+ and HBO Max fighting over streaming rights for the series, with the exception of the exclusive specials and the 1999 movie which Paramount+ had all the rights for.

FILM CORNER - Disney’s Folly: The Failure of the Snow White Remake
For those who read my review are probably not that surprised to hear about the major disappointment that is Disney’s soulless live-action remake of the company’s first animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In the review, I expressed my anger on this reimagining of the Walt Disney Classic, and now the backlash is more clearer than any verse the Magic Mirror would ever say.
FILM CORNER - Heigh-No! Disney's Worst Remake: An Honest Review of Snow White (2025)
I'm going to apologize in advance for how angry this review is going to be, but what I experienced at my local cinema has done nothing but made me angry. Unless you have been living under a rock, 1937's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs made a big impact when it was released by RKO Radio Pictures and produced by Walt Disney Productions.
Schmidt: A precious need to fix the economy before its too late
I know many will say that I am preaching to the choir here, but this is a continuous problem our country has faced for years: Our economy is not in good shape. Prices are going up and so is inflation. Our government right now believes that taxes and tariffs will fix the problem despite their asinine amount of spending. And what is the worst part is that our money has so little to no real value in it. kAmxE :D 4@>>@?
Schmidt: Watch out for those who are Libertarian in name only
This will probably be the most divisive column I have ever written, but based on my experiences of dealing with a certain group of people within the last couple of months, this will be my most detailed piece I have written so far.
Jens, Johnson Named to All-NSIC Team
Women's Basketball | 2/27/2025 10:30:00 AM BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) has unveiled the All-NSIC teams for the 2024-25 season. MSU Moorhead senior guard Natalie Jens and junior forward Terryn Johnson both earned all-conference nods. Jens collected her second All-NSIC First Team honor while Johnson was named All-NSIC Second Team for the second straight season.
Schmidt: Texas Libertarians gather for first quarterly meeting
Last weekend, members of Libertarian Party of Texas’ State Libertarian Executive Committee met in Fredericksburg for their first quarterly meeting of the year, and Saturday morning, Libertarian Party of Texas Chair Andrew Amelang called the meeting to order at 9:04 am. After the roll call of all the members was done, the agenda was adopted and both the officers and department directors gave their reports.
Schmidt: Actions of some party members do not represent all
It’s no secret that I have been ashamed of the leadership of the National Libertarian Party for the past couple of years. While the Libertarian Party of Texas remains as one of the most liberty-supporting state affiliates in the country, its leadership has remained more Libertarian than the one that runs the national Libertarian Party.
Banning THC Would Hurt Texans
Last Wednesday, the office of the Lieutenant Governor announced that the Texas Senate will legislate Senate Bill 3 which aims to ban all consumable forms of THC. For those of you who don’t know what THC is, it is a cannabinoid found in both cannabis and hemp. It is one of the main compounds that gives out the psychoactive effects that one experiences when consumed, and for years, it has been used medically for pain, nausea, and improves appetite.
Schmidt: Libertarians hold deep roots in Texas Karaoke Caucus
During the same weekend as the State Libertarian Executive Committee meeting, a brand new caucus within the party had its first meet-up event following the long business day that each State Libertarian Executive Committee member experienced. Members of the newly formed Texas Karaoke Caucus met at Julio’s Mexican Grill in Magnolia for both dinner and a night filled with singing as the restaurant hosted a karaoke night for diners and guests.
Schmidt: Libertarians host executive committee meeting
This past weekend, the members of Libertarian Party of Texas’ State Libertarian Executive Committee met in The Woodlands for its fourth quarterly meeting of the year. The meeting was called to order at 9:01 a.m. with 37 members present after roll call was done by Secretary Christy Ford. After the adoption of the agenda and approving the minutes from the previous meeting, the officers and staff of Libertarian Party of Texas gave their respective reports.

FILM CORNER: Caligula Lives Again in New Recut of Controversial Movie
For the past couple of years, I've was following the news of a recut of a very controversial movie after reading reports of over 90 hours of rediscovered footage being found in a storage warehouse rented by the pornographic titan, Penthouse, right before it would've been destroyed. The film: Caligula. At first, a fan of the film's director Tinto Brass wanted to create a cut that was more closer to his vision of the film. Then...nothing.
Enough is Enough! Angela McArdle Must Resign!
Ever since my last post, more drama has been coming from the heart of the LNC as Angela McArdle, the National Chair, has gone to the road of rouge and authoritarian disarray. Just recently, drama has come up between her and LNC Treasurer Bill Redpath as he has been hard at work petitioning to get the Chase Oliver presidential campaign on the ballot in several states as he also serves as Ballot Access Coordinator for the party as well.
Presidential Race Becomes Even More Predictable and Crazier
As of writing this column, the news has broke that Independent presidential candidate, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., suspended his campaign within the 2024 Presidential Race to endorse Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump. There are those of us who are not surprised of this as hints were given out throughout the week.
Schmidt: County’s elections academy is an enlightening course
Last week, I was one of several individuals in Guadalupe County to attend one of the two course sessions of the Guadalupe County Citizens Election Academy. The election academy was created and hosted by the amazing staff at the Guadalupe County Elections Office and led by Elections Administrator Lisa Hayes. Within the past couple of weeks, there was a total of two sessions. The first was held on the evenings of July 30 and Aug. 2, and the second, which I attended, was held on the evenings of Aug.
Schmidt: State Libertarians oppose Kennedy support, vote against Texit
This past Saturday, the State Libertarian Executive Committee met in Tyler to have its first meeting since the Libertarian Party of Texas’ State Convention in April and out of all of the items within the meeting, only two stood out that created much discussion within the body. The first was a motion to adopt a resolution for a referendum on Texas Independence and the other was a motion to adopt a resolution against the Libertarian National Committee’s joint funding partnership with the Robert F.
FILM CORNER: The Film the MCU Needed
This weekend, the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was released, and it was the long-awaited Deadpool & Wolverine! In this sequel to 20th Century Fox's Deadpool and Deadpool 2, Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds) partners up with Wolverine (played by Hugh Jackman) to face against a common foe. I could say more but anything after that would be a major spoiler for the film, and I am one not to spoil heavily anticipated movies like this one.
Schmidt: Guadalupe Libertarians denounce decision, chair
On Sunday, July 21, the Libertarian Party of Guadalupe County made the following statement on its Facebook page: “The Libertarian Party of Guadalupe County strongly denounces the Libertarian National Committee’s decision to create a joint funding partnership with the Robert F. Kennedy Jr. campaign.
Schmidt: Acts of violence, claims they were staged must end
I will admit that this will be a tough column for me to write due to the recent news that made me very upset, but it has led me to discussions with my closest friends and family who are just as upset about it as I am. On Saturday, July 13, a 20-year-old man named Thomas Matthew Crooks took eight shots at former President Donald Trump from a building near where he was holding a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, with a rifle that was legally purchased by his father.
MSUM Announces 2024 Dragon Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees
Athletics Department | 7/15/2024 11:30:00 AM MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead athletics is excited to announce the 2024 Dragon Athletic Hall of Fame inductees. Six individuals and two teams highlight the yearly selections as the group will be honored at a ceremony on Friday, October 11. "I am excited to add these exceptional Dragons to our Hall of Fame," said MSUM athletics director Chad Marksuon.
FILM CORNER: Films I Will More Likely See This Year
It's been a while since I last posted a Film Corner column. Last time I did so, I discussed how the U.S. theatrical release of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train was a huge sign of the grand return of cinema exclusive movies since movie theaters opened back up after the COVID-19 lockdowns. As the past couple of years went by, I started to become disinterested in many of the films that Hollywood has released. There were a few that I quite enjoyed.
The Matter of a Person’s Money Being Used by the Public Sector
Originally published in the Seguin Gazette on January 1, 2024 The argument of “there is a price to everything” as well as “there is no such thing as free” is still old and true to this day. Everything has a cost, and whatever something costs needs to be paid. Our most important freedoms and rights as listed in the Constitution weren’t just there willy nilly. Before the rights of the American people were decided upon by our Founding Fathers, many men fought with their lives in the Revolutionary War.
Schmidt: Chase Oliver named Libertarian presidential nominee
In my last column, I wrote how the Mises Caucus-affiliated National Chair of the Libertarian Party Angela McArdle invited former President Donald Trump to the Libertarian National Convention, and the chaos that happened when he tried to tell a bunch of delegates to nominate him as the official Libertarian candidate.
Schmidt: Trump’s appearance at national convention was contentious
At the time of writing this column, it is late Sunday night in Washington, D.C., where a little more than 1,000 Libertarians are nominating the Libertarian Party leadership for the 2024-2026 term. A lot has happened during the weekend as delegates from across the country met at the nation’s capital to elect not just the leadership but the presidential ticket as well.
Schmidt: Libertarians to solidify presidential nominees at national convention
This weekend, registered members of the Libertarian Party from across the nation will meet at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C., for the 2024 Libertarian National Convention. Those who will take part in the business meetings, which are the most anticipated within the party, are the delegates and seated alternates of each respective state. A few of the delegates include myself and Libertarian Party Guadalupe County Chair Darren Pollok.
Schmidt: Guadalupe County must cut ties with elections company
Last Thursday, I did my part as a concerned citizen of the county to email the Commissioners Court about the issue of the more than $17,000 surcharge that VOTEC charged Guadalupe County a couple of months ago. For those of you not in the loop about this pricey surcharge, VOTEC is a California-based election service company that provides counties the software needed to maintain voter registration information.
Schmidt: State convention seats candidates for general election
The Libertarian Party of Texas recently held its bi-annual state convention at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi. There, delegates, alternates and other party officials met for official business, elected party leaders and nominated their state-wide candidates for the general election this November. To start the convention, the Libertarian Party of Texas held a presidential debate for candidates Chase Oliver, Lars Mapstead, Mike ter Maat and Michael Rectenwald.
Schmidt: Local Libertarians confirm candidates for General Election
Last week, the Libertarian Party of Guadalupe County had its precinct and county conventions at GG’s Cafe in Seguin, and both conventions went very well; so well that we grew from 10 registered members two years ago to 14.
Schmidt: Liberty is cornerstone of state of Texas’ independence
On March 2, I attended the Toast to Texas event held at Central Park by the Seguin Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. The turnout was outstanding as always. Many people from within the area came for the festivities and to celebrate Texas’ Declaration of Independence.
Schmidt: Investing in crypto may be risky, but better in the long run
In recent weeks, I’ve been checking out some of the big name cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and saw that the prices for many of them have been going up. While writing this column on Friday, I saw that the price of Bitcoin is over $62,000, Ethereum is almost at $3,500 and even Elon Musk’s favorite meme coin, Dogecoin, is at $0.14 after a spike that happened several days ago. There are those of us who have invested in crypto who have been investing more due to the continuous growth of prices.
Jens, Johnson Named to All-NSIC Team
Women's Basketball | 2/29/2024 10:30:00 AM BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead junior guard Natalie Jens and sophomore forward Terryn Johnson have been named to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's all-league team for 2023-24. Jens was tabbed as a First Team performer with Johnson landing on the Second Team. Jens, a junior from Beaver Dam, Wis., was a true Swiss Army knife for the Dragons in 2023-24, averaging a team-best 14.6 points per game.
Four Dragons All-NSIC, Price Named Newcomer of the Year
Men's Basketball | 2/29/2024 10:00:00 AM BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead men's basketball landed four student-athletes on the All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference team with junior guard JaMir Price being named the league's Newcomer of the Year. Price was named a First Team performer alongside Jacob Beeninga with Ja'Kair Sanchez and Dane Zimmer earning Second Team distinction.
Schmidt: Libertarians meet before state executive conventions
This past weekend, members of the State Libertarian Executive Committee met in College Station for their last meeting in their respective terms before upcoming conventions within the next couple of months. The meeting was called to order by Libertarian Party of Texas Chair Whitney Bilyeu, with Secretary Anastasia Wilford calling roll and 37 members present. The agenda for the meeting was then adopted, and the minutes of the previous meeting were approved by the body.
Schmidt: Public has a right to decide how their money is spent
The arguments of “there is a price to everything” as well as “there is no such thing as free” are old and true to this day. Everything has a cost and whatever something costs needs to be paid. Our most important freedoms and rights as listed in the Constitution weren’t just there willy nilly. Before our Founding Fathers decided the rights of the American people, many men fought with their lives in the Revolutionary War. Many lived and many died.

Schmidt: Mises-run national Libertarian leadership needs to go
In this new election year, many in the Libertarian Party are setting up for their upcoming conventions, and there are those who are aiming to be delegates for the National Libertarian Convention, which will be held in Washington D.C. in May.
Schmidt: Misconceptions of third parties during the primary can cause confusion
The beginning of the New Year is upon us, and with the final days of 2023 coming up we already started seeing campaign signs for many of the primary opponents in the county. Third party candidates don’t have primaries, but we have our nomination process through our conventions instead. However, there are some misconceptions that the major two parties may throw at you either through lack of research or just putting misinformation out there wanting everyone to believe it.
Schmidt: Good leaders see the value in setting term limits
Every time I watch a video about our country’s leaders in the past, we are told about how strong their leadership was. For example, our first president, George Washington, was a military leader in both the French and Indian War as well as the Revolutionary War before he took office. Mind you, this was a position that he originally didn’t want as he wanted to focus on his private life at his home at Mount Vernon.
Schmidt: Voting third-party candidates is not a ‘wasted vote’
As we get closer and closer to 2024, we are already seeing announcements by politicians who are either running for their re-election, those who were not elected in the previous years who keep running for office and newcomers to the political field.
