Is it too early to compare Lomachenko to all time greats?

Did you all see this report in Men's Health that Tyson Fury is punching the clown 7 times a day?
Isn't that going to have the opposite effect he is going for though?...
School me on Henry Maske...
Excellent amateur Olympic gold medalist World amateur gold medalist 2 x European gold medalist Real good pro too who avenged his only loss, a razor-close loss at that, to Virgil Hill 10 years later in his first fight back. Maske was an absolute superstar in his homeland and by far the most popular fighter over there at the time and arguably the most popular ever, and if not definitely #2 to Max Schmeling.
Where does this idea come from that Fury is such an intelligent, 'High IQ' fighter?
What does that even mean? What is so intelligent about his style? He's big and ackward, which makes him tough to fight, yes... But i've never found him to be particularly well at cutting off the ring, his defense is nothing special, he doesn't have the ability to time his opponents like a Mayweather or B-Hop, .... for such a big powerful guy he can rarely put his punches together enough to end a fight, and he spends entirely too much time showboating rather than engaging.
Fury can't help himself. He'll start showboating and Wilder will knock him 'spark out'
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Oakland Billy Smith, Jan 13, 2020 at 12:59 PM. Honestly, I just can't see him staying discipled enough to avoid getting hit all night. All the Wilder Haters said last time that Wilder couldnt land any punches...well that just tells me he only needed 2 punches to break even. No way Fury avoids 2 punches for 12 full rounds. And what if Wilder can actually land that 3rd punch?

I want to let everyone know that Tank Davis is...
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Incinerate, Dec 29, 2019 at 11:19 AM. Tank Davis is straight azz. He better not leave 130. I think Berchelt has a chance and I don't even want to bring in the guys at 135 and 140. Taylor would whoop his ass. Tank hasn't fought anyone and hasn't proven himself against anyone yet. Now he has to convince me that he is the goods. Lopez, Haney, Loma. Can he walk through that gauntlet?
How do rank fighters of which there is no actual film footage of their fights, or very limited?
Do you search for and read old contemporary newspaper articles about the fights? Do you rely solely on Boxrec? The purpose of this thread is not to disparage or discredit fighters of the past.... But seeing how modern boxing scholars overhyped and over rate certain fighters, while going out of their way to discredit others is highly suspicious to me, and I don't see why it would have been any different a hundred years ago. Bert Sugar is a fine example.
How great was Nasty Nate Campbell?
He was completely weight drained and ill in the fights he lost to Robbie Peden.... At the correct weight he dismantled highly touted prospect Kid Diamond, and derailed the career of rising star Juan Diaz By the time he lost to Tim Bradley .One of the ATGs at 140, he was well past his best days. I think at 135-140 he gives anyone a run for their money.....
Why do we treat Fury like he overcame cancer just because he was 'depressed' & drank & used drugs?
Lots of fighters have personal problems. Many of them battle through them without taking 3 years off of the sport. Im not downplaying the significance, but people try to make him out to be some type of hero.
Why does Floyd not get the credit today for beating Manny ?
For 5 years (cinco años) all these blowhard haters said Floyd was this, Floyd was that, and that he was scared to fight Manny and would never be legit until he did so. So Floyd goes out and beats Mammy in dominant fashion, and its almost as if today that fight doesn't even count. Why? Manny went on to win more titles after the loss, proving he wasnt washed up. Do you really buy the 'hurt shoulder' excuse?
If Wilder and AJ and Fury all end up fighting each other at least once....
How great will this HW era be remembered? Assuming none of them are shot fighters
Should American fans ever support Andy Ruiz again after he sold us out in Saudi Arabia?
I'm talking specifically about him being represented by the Mexican National Anthem, in front of a bunch of foreigners no less. I get it, he's Hispanic, but he was born, raised, and continues to live in Imperial California. Yes, Imperial is right on the border, but that makes it all the more asinine. Mexico is literally a five minute drive away...if Mexico is so important to Andy Ruiz why doesn't he live there?
Fury fought the perfect fight against Wilder, how much can he really improve for rematch?
His perfect fight came up short and he has looked less impressive since. Wilder on the other hand has looked more impressive against better competition
Wilder vs Ortiz II: for whom do you cheer ?
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Boxing2019, Nov 12, 2019 at 12:54 PM. For whom do you cheer? Why? Last edited: Nov 12, 2019 at 10:51 PM I am picking the People's Champion, Deontay Wilder, by KO 4 Surely nobody believes Ortiz can pull this off? A year and 8 months older from the first fight. Ortiz has zero wins vs. top 10 opponents. He has a habit of being out of shape. He's old as hell. He aged another 2 years since the last fight.
Anyone remember Jorge "Maramero" Paez?
Featherweight champion and clown...literally! He started out as a circus clown in Mexico. I don't know what made me think of him today, but something reminded me of that gasser of a fight he had with Troy Dorsey. A lot of people think Dorsey won, but both guys just kept throwing punches. Anyway, Paez was a lot of fun. Seemed like a lot of his big wins were squeakers, but much like Fury these days, it also seemed like he was using half of his energy to have a good time rather than win the fight.

Why aren't more fighters aggressively calling out Saul Alvarez
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Oakland Billy Smith, Nov 6, 2019 at 6:50 AM. Tyson Fury is now Deontay Wilder's mandatory under the WBC
Somebody please get this greedy, corrupt piece of trash out of the sport. :fusmile [MEDIA]
Why didn't Tyson change his name when he converted to Islam?
All the other guys like Clay and Braxton and Mathew Saad did. What would have been a good name switch for him? What do you think of Rashid Al-bar Shabazz? He did change his name to Malik from what I remember.
How would Canelo fare against the Joey Maxim who made SRR quit on his stool?
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > Classic Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Oakland Billy Smith, Nov 4, 2019 at 11:27 AM. Hot lights and the whole 9 He's loses over 15, on points. Close decision for Canelo over 12. Canelo would outbox Maxim imo but would suffer from his own stamina and lose rounds to make it close. it would go the distance and canelo gets the decision.
Sergei v Canelo your scorecards after 10 rds ????

The jury's still out on whether Alvarez can take a true punch from a light heavy
Great performance, probably KO of the year.... But let's not get it twisted, Canelos chin was never tested in that fight. That still remains to be seen how he holds to a punch from an animal like Beterbiev, or even a solid light heavy like Jean Pascal.
Kovalev on the black leather couch
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Oakland Billy Smith, Nov 3, 2019 at 11:17 AM. Have you ever seen a fighter that relaxed for that length of time before a big fight? He looked like he was watching a Simpsons marathon or something. you would think he'd at least get up and shadow box a few a round or two deyell I broke my back. Spinal. Kovalev knew that he had no chance to win, hence he was relaxed and smiling.
Kovalev's age was no excuse. His performance was shameful and undermines his entire legacy
I've seen lots of 'aging fighters' well above 36... Its one thing to be older and slower and more vulnerable... Its quite another to employ a tap-tap-paw strategy with no commitment behind your punches. Especially when your entire legacy is based upon being the big bad wolf.
Is Saul "Henry Armstrong" Alvarez the current Top Dawg at Light Heavy?
Beterbiev better just go and work on his college degree if he knows what's good for him
How was Kova SHOT when you guys had him winning? LoL
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by El Chicano, Nov 2, 2019 at 11:05 PM. Cant have it both ways Btw it was a close fight If u had Kova up big you dont know how to score a boxing match CANELO KOd him so u guys cant say nothing now lol I said Kovalev was old and shot before the fight. I predicted Canelo would stop him late or win the UD. It played out exactly like that. I have not got any skin in this game.
Kovalev tried to win without throwing a single power punch?
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Oakland Billy Smith, Nov 2, 2019 at 11:06 PM. What the hell did i just watch? Looked like Paulie Malinagi hitting the mits on a Sunday afternoon northpaw, pacas, shza and 2 others like this. Kovalev had little time from his last fight. Forza Obsessed with Boxing that was a pathetic dive pacas, Willie Maeket and 305th like this. I had Kovalev up three points going into the 11th.
School me on Hasim Rahman...
Notable Wins: Corrie Sander, Lennox Lewis, Al 'Ice' Cole, Kali Meehan, Jessie Ferguson Notable Losses: Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Oleg Maskaev (x2), Wladimir Klitschko The win over Lennox Lewis is what always gets the ink when it comes to telling the story of his career. But what I think was equally noteworthy was his mid-career resurgence, where he defied the odds and won a portion of the title back by beating Monte Barrett.
If Alvarez stands center ring and out punches kovalev like he did GGG...
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by notjustacasual, Nov 2, 2019 at 6:27 PM. Can you imagine? Ggg 2 they said canelo would run, instead he claimed center ring and punched GGG'S **** in. Ggg was the one backpedelling with eyes wide, unable to stand and trade. Will he do it again tonight? What a sight it would be. He very well might.
Fighters who have recovered from DEVASTATING knockdowns to go on and win the fight?
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by pow, Nov 2, 2019 at 1:18 PM. pow Well-Known Member Tyson fury was brutally knocked down in the 12th round of his heavyweight contest with Deontay Wilder, the most feared puncher of his generation. Many commentators at the time felt the fight should have been waved off immediately and gum shield removed but the referee gave Fury the benefit of the doubt and administered a count.
Canelo vs Kovalev - final predictions....
Heart wants Kovalev to win. Head says Canelo on points. I believe the deck is already stacked against Kovalev. The games immediately started at the weigh-in so it appears that Golden Boy, by hook or crook, will do everything for a Canelo victory. I really want Kovalev to win via violent KO so boxing can claim a moral victory. However a more sadistic part of me would not mind a Canelo victory just so that Beterbiev can put an even more BRUTAL end to this Canelo charade.
If Alvarez gets chopped up & KOd will it mean he was overrated, or just bit off more than could chew
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Oakland Billy Smith, Nov 2, 2019 at 10:13 AM. What do you think of this young brother Blaire Cobbs on this weekend's undercard?
I think he can make quite a bit of noise in the 147 division. ...his flamboyant style can only work to his favor
If Canelo has success against Kovalev, will the pressure be on Old Man Loma to move up and fight TC?
Or at least Pac? Wouldn't it still be worth giving up the prestigious Franchise Championship to have a shot at solidifying hisself as the true p4p Top Dawg? Give it a rest man... Your act is old already.
Is Bud Crawford the modern day Lucian Bute?
Don't get me wrong, i think Crawford is way better than Bute, but my point is the rest of his division is fighting each other in tough fights while Buds beating up on lesser competition... I thought his best opponent was Gamboa and that was already several years ago.
What is Usyk's best and most reasonable path to Heavyweight Glory?
You got the Unified Belt Holder in Andy Ruiz... The universally recognized People's Champion, Deontay Wilder... And the supposed #1 HW in the world, the Lineal Champion Tyson Fury Plus you got AJ lurking in the shadows seeking vengeance and redemption.... And a whole slew of angry contenders like Dilyan White, Jarrell Miller and Joseph Parker, all waiting for their next opportunity....
Should Canelo use the old 'The lights were too hot' excuse if he gasses out against Kovalev?

So are they just making up champions now?
What in the world is going on with these championships now? So Loma becomes promoted to 'Franchise' Champion without even doing so much... Someone please tell me what exactly is a 'franchise' champion? I feel like the boxing organization is just making sh#t up at this point. This is just getting ridiculous...
Errol Spence Has No Friends...
The guy is a good boxer, but his ego is obviously out of control like many 'new money' young celebs/athletes I hope he makes a full recovery and focuses on his career, as he has a bright future IF he remains dedicated Floyd/Manny get a lot of sh1t, depending which side you are on, but these guys where prime examples on how to lead your life and be a an all time great boxer with longevity
Which of these HW Championship fights should be put on hold so that Usyk can get his title shot:
Wilder vs Fury II AJ vs Wilder Ruiz vs Wilder Ruiz vs Fury AJ vs Fury If you ask me Ruiz is the odd man out, but he has 2 belts, assuming he beats AJ again should he give the next title shot to Usyk? That's actually a very tough fight for Usyk.
Maybe Fury prefers to do the entertainer more than trying to become a world champion again.
I wont blame the guy for making as much money as possible....jack Dempsey did the same thing... But Fury ain't no champion! He aint no heir to the throne! Ever since he tasted Wilders power and was lucky to escape with his life he has made it clear his intentions. First he ran off to ESPN to avoid the Wilder rematch, then he signs to fight some guy named Tim Schwartzs, then Otto Walin. Meanwhile AJ and Wilder are fighting live bodies in real fights.... Now he's focusing on his WWF career.

Is it a foregone conclusion that Beterbiev walks through Kovalev?
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Oakland Billy Smith, Oct 21, 2019 at 8:26 AM. From where I was sitting it seemed to me that old boy Gvodzyk had a bit of success tagging up Beterbiev at long range....even stopped him in his tracks once that i remember. It also seems to me that Kovalev is a far superior fighter from long range, the big question to me is could he avoid the clinches ?
Maybe Fury prefers to do the entertainer.

Who had the better reputation: Zab Judah or Nonito Donaire?
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Ra's Al-Ghul, Oct 20, 2019. Because of the discusion about the opposition of Lomaschenko and Pacquaio in the thread Fighter of the decade, I have to ask this question: Who was pound for pound or in their division higher placed, the Judah after the Baldomir and Mayweather defeats who faced Clottey (before the controversial decision vs.
Holyfield had to fight real contenders at HW to get his shot.... shouldn't Usyk have to do the same?
Holyfield defended the CW title 6 times and unified the belts along the way.... then he had to get past James Tillis, Pinklon Thomas, Michael Dokes, Alex Stewart, along with a couple of lesser opponents before he ever got a shot at the HW crown, and all along people were doubting his ability at HW. Why is Usyk given such star treatment by comparison? And then modern fans have the audacity to claim Usyk was better than Holy? Even at CW? Does anyone older than 30 really believe that?
