Heads up. Re. Pfizer booster vaccine/Covid
Tue Oct 17, 2023, 06:21 AM no_hypocrisy (43,936 posts) Heads up. Re. Pfizer booster vaccine/Covid I had my 2023 booster Saturday afternoon. Less than six months after the last booster in May. I had a reaction, a side effect that I want to share. I woke up the next morning (Sunday) with both legs affected. They felt very stiff, very heavy. To walk, I had to use short steps with a fear of losing my balance. Bending was not an option. Stairs scared me. I felt like I had 20 pounds weights on each leg.

German electrical infrastructure
Tue Oct 10, 2023, 05:07 PM German electrical infrastructure This is a problem with the switch to renewables. How to beef up the system to handle all the extra electric that is going to be needed from all the different souces to get to all the new things we will be plugging into the grid. The issue is world wide. I believe Texas is having real troubles bring in new renewable sources becasue their infrastructure is maxed out and adding to it is hard politically adn financially.
I have been trying to find polite ways to tell people that they are wrong.
Tue Oct 10, 2023, 04:50 PM I have been trying to find polite ways to tell people that they are wrong. It doesn't really help to say that they are lying, full of.... or a number of other things. I'm not going to be too optimistic that these will change minds but they shouldn't lead to angry responses. I was reading The Economist and these two popped out. When some one has an opinion about something that you know is wrong. "This is at odds with the evidence." Or looking at a problem using bad data.

A question - Democratic Underground
Sun Oct 8, 2023, 03:49 PM Just what does this surprise attack by Hamas, with its initial success, have to say about Isreal's intellegence services and their border defences? I mean we aren't talking about a sophisticated military group in Hamas. Some how they massed a force of some kind close to the border and broke though to the complete surprise of Isreal's forces.
More of the Oktoberfest night shots
This year was quite the scene. Record crowds, helped by 2 extra days. Not a record for amount of beer poured. People are lowering tehir intake. The weather was exceptional. Only one day with rain. Last year it was 5-10 C colder and only one weekend sunny day. The last day. So I think people were happier in general and you could wander around the carnival part and not be packed into the big tents. As Australian as the Blooming Onion Ah Nuts.

Competative house districts are few
Tue Oct 3, 2023, 09:23 AM From the Wapo. To change the House we must work really hard to get the vast majority of competative house seats. Then we have to radically reduce gerrymandering althfough the self selection of living areas may hurt that. These days, only 82 of the 435 House districts across the country are competitive enough that both parties start out with a decent shot at winning, according to the Cook Political Reportís David Wasserman.

Then about 3 oz grated sharp cheddar. Baked at 275 until browned around the edges. and the top criping a little.

A question regarding storm water
Tue Aug 22, 2023, 03:16 PM When storms come in from over the sea and dump huge amounts of water on the land, aren't they dumping a bunch of salts as well? No one discusses sea water being deposited in terms of unwanted salt. We know that we can't drink salt water. If we want to utilize ocean water for drinking, we have to remove the salt. People are saying that the droughts are so bad that they would welcome some tropical storm water. But, what good is the water with salt in it?

Fri Aug 18, 2023, 04:12 AM I find my discussions about the second amendment with gun advocates to be a bit frustrating. "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." This amendment was written around 1789.

Really captures the flow in so many ways - frothiness, cascades, pools, water-water-water. Most of my cascade shots just come out OK with a good automatic setting with the newer digital cameras. They seem to understand what can be captured in real-time and what must be at a slower shutter speed. Don't know nothing about this stuff but happy when it works out! (Also, not having to send 10 rolls of 35mm to the drugstore to find out the results!)
