Seiko movement question.
Fairly new to this, so please forgive any ignorance! On ebay I recently bought a watch running a 20 yo 7s26 ("recently serviced", with good, credible photo evidence). Well, she ran +5minutes /day out of the box, and whipping off the back and adjusting the regulator down made no difference. However, I then left it crown up overnight, and suddenly we are at -1min/day, so things are looking up a bit.
Vintage K&S guidance, please.
I'm looking online (ebay) at a vintage K&S with an ETA 2472. Does anyone know anything about these please, as I've never heard of them? I'm only interested as I work for a firm called K&S, and it would amuse me to have a unique "company" watch!
Rotary WR advice, please.
Hello All. I'm looking online at a used Rotary GS90060/06 which claims 100m WR. Please can anyone steer me to a reliable confirmation of the WR? I can see 50m on other sites, which I suspect is the truth, but I'm looking for classic style automatic with a believable 100m. I need a properly serviced Rolex 16220 in my life, but that will have to wait! Thanks.
Vintage Omega non-date advice please.
Good morning from the UK. I have an early 70s ss 166.0163 Geneve cal. 1012 which I wear about 50% of the time in my small rotation. I'm very happy with it, but I'd like to add something equivalent without the date window. I know that the 10XX movements are pretty basic, but I can't easily see a non-date cal in a similar case. I also sometimes wear an early 60s Seamaster with a cal. 552 (no-date, obvs.) but it's just a bit small for me. Any suggestions in the sub $750, 34mm and up range, please?
Beat Error Concerns.
My apologies in advance if this has been covered already, but I couldn't find anything. My specific question is whether a high beat error is storing up any future problems, maybe by damaging or putting uneven wear on any components in my watch, please? The watch is an early 1970s Omega cal 1012. The phone app measured timekeeping varies a bit with orientation (+3 to -15 s/day), but the BE is pretty consistent at about 2.6 m/s.
Vintage Omega question.
There's a Geneve 165.002 available which I like the look of. However, a quick browse shows almost all 165.002s to be Seamaster labelled, with just a few Geneves. Are they the same watch, please?
17mm Lug Width.
#1 · I have two watches with 17mm lug widths, and this obviously greatly reduces my leather strap options. Especially as I try to use longer straps for safety on my 7.75in/19.5cm wrist. Should I ask a watchmaker to mill out the lugs a tiny amount? Or use a craft knife to trim 18mm straps? What do others do, please? Sort by #2 · Why not order a custom strap or straps? I use Veblenist here in the USA.
Accuracy variation
I have a couple of vintage autos which keep excellent time (+/-5s/day or so) after a day on the wrist, but after being unworn overnight they are running fast. Say +20s compared with the evening before. I measure with a phone app, face up, crown up and crown down, and the results are consistent. Is this normal, please?
Age-appropriate watches?
At the age of 63 I've just found out what it feels to be in the "landing phase" of my life! One of my sons recently said to me "Dad, why are you wearing that watch? Its look is far too young for you". So there goes 6 or more watches I can never wear again without attracting ageist scorn. Life can be so cruel. Am I alone?
Looking for a better "middle" item for my 3 watch core.
#1 · Got the beach/sailing/gardening watch sorted, and the proper dress item, too. However, I can't nail the everyday candidate. I really need a do-it-all wearer with 100m WR, as I live near the sea, and boats/beach type activities sometimes arise without warning. I prefer automatic, non Japanese, no more than 40mm, non diver, at sub $750, but I'm fine with (prefer, actually) pre-owned.
Hacking induced anxiety?
First post from a newbie, so my apologies for any miss-steps. Forgive me if this has been well covered before, but I've recently acquired a couple of non-hackers. I just set them by lining up the minute hand, and then re-setting when any error becomes noticeable in everyday use. Quite different from setting to the second, and then frequently using my phone app to check how a particular watch is doing. In fact I'm now taking to setting my hackers in the same way.
