Electronic pages Letters & notices Greenhouse gas emissions in UK agriculture David Burch The Round House, The Friary, Old Windsor, Berkshire SL4 2NR email: d.burch{at}octagon-services.co.uk Statistics from Altmetric.com Following a number of critical television programmes and adverse media comment with regard to the environmental damage caused by global agriculture, it stimulated me to seek information to determine what was the extent of the problem in the UK.

Low transmission of AMR from animals to people David Burch The Round House, The Friary, Old Windsor, Berkshire SL4 2NR email: d.burch{at}octagon-services.co.uk Statistics from Altmetric.com In 2014, Dame Sally Davies, the then chief medical officer, expressed concern that antimicrobial use in animals might spread resistance to man: ‘Lack of evidence doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen, it just means that no one has invested in looking before’ (VR, 29 November 2014, vol 175, pp 522-523).

This demonstrates that we are not getting our message on ‘responsible use’ across to our medical colleagues.
